Bathroom Advice!

We need to rip out our main bathroom as a matter of urgency but we are in a quandary about how to refit it, so I’m asking the wonderful Mumsnet community for advice!

Currently the bathroom consists of separate shower, normal fitted bath, toilet and large single basin. Should we refit...

  1. Like for like, just new, swankier stuff!
  1. Scrap the separate shower and have a larger shower / bath combo (FYI we have an en suite with a shower cubicle off the master bedroom)

Reasons for scrapping the separate shower are that the current one has leaked causing damage to the floor and we thought a shower bath would prevent any further damage (obvs floor will be repaired). Also getting rid of the shower would mean room for a storage cupboard and a double sink.

However, would taking out the shower cubicle affect the value of the house? DH says it would and wants to keep the layout as is. I’m keener on option 2 but do understand his point.

If relevant, it’s a 5 bed detached, family of 5 (although eldest away at uni) and we will be looking to sell this property in 5 years or so.

Any views?

How many other bathrooms does the property have and what set up do they have?

Is the separate shower cubicle roomy? If so, keep separate. If not, then shower over bath.

(Disclaimer: I don't like baths, got rid of my bath-with-shower and replaced with decent-sized shower. But I'd prefer a bath-with-shower than teeny shower cubicle.)

Also, how big is the room? Does having it separate make the room feel squeezed or is there lots of space?

I’d keep the shower separate too if it’s a reasonable size. I hate baths with a shower combo! They are lethal, hard to clean, not wide enough, and can also leak.
