Anyone else had this hideous virus?

Please tell me it gets better soon. I've had it over two weeks now, it's a minor snuffle/sore throat which isn't too bad at all, but it comes along with exhaustion and all over body aches that just won't let up. But because my normal coldy symptoms are so mild I feel like I can't take time off work for it. Combined wisdom of mumsnet, please tell me it will be better soon!

I have this along with hardly any voice....I'm on day 4 now and it's getting right on my last nerve Angry

TheGirlFromStoryville · 27/10/2019 11:49

Yes I've had this for 3 weeks now.. Started with a sinus infection, then went to a chest infection, aches, chills, fever, sore throat, cough with lots of green phlegm.
Only just starting to feel normal again, my cough is dry now and easing off (hopefully!)
Things that helped -
Saline nasal spray
Sudafed decongestant (blue pack from pharmacy)
Vicks rubbed on chest and soles of feet
Olbas oil
High strength Vit C and zinc
Hot honey and lemon drinks.

Good luck to anyone with it - it's truly awful.

Pumpkinpie66 · 27/10/2019 11:51

3 weeks??? You poor thing. I'm just hoping the aches will go soon, they are driving me mad!

3 weeks here too but I'm at the bit where I'm just coughing up crap and snotty. The first week was worse and I had to ring in sick as lost my voice

suze28 · 27/10/2019 11:59

Two colds back to back for me since Sept 21st and it's only been this week that I've felt somewhere near normal. Mine went to my sinuses and it was rotten.

Getoffmylilo · 27/10/2019 12:00

Just getting to the end of week three. Seems to have settled in my nose and chest but am enjoying blowable snot for the first time, so that's just lovely (really). I had two days of awful dental pain with it because my sinuses were so bad. Definitely on the mend but exhausted.

Parsimon · 27/10/2019 12:01

On day three here. I thought I might shake it off by the end of the weekend so 3 weeks looks Shock

LadyR77 · 27/10/2019 12:02

Yep, I had it for over 2 weeks, it was utterly miserable. Hope you feel better soon!

weehoo · 28/10/2019 10:09

We're all in the throes of it here, with a dose of d&v thrown in too - horrific!

MissMarple0203 · 28/10/2019 10:22

Same here! We are getting in for 3rd week now, thought we'd turned a corner until D&V started yesterday and the cold is back in full force. Unfortunately my new born caught it from DS and has had to go to hospital so we are having a nightmare trying to juggle every thing whilst being sick ourselves.

EleanorReally · 28/10/2019 10:25

yes, its going round the family, quite horrible

123Dancewithme · 28/10/2019 10:35

I had something like that which lasted about 2 weeks. It was awful!

Delatron · 28/10/2019 11:35

Yep had it for about three weeks in total had a week in the middle where I felt better bit overdid the running and it came back.
Dry cough, exhaustion, nausea, sore throat. Only towards the end did the cough become productive and the snot fest started and it was a relief to get it all out.

Things that helped: main thing was rest, a couple of days I rested in bed and felt so much better. But then back to rushing around the next day and worse again.
Hot drinks with Manuka honey.
Vitamin c and zinc.
But mainly rest!

Parsimon · 28/10/2019 20:14

Ugh. I would rather the snot fest than the aches and exhaustion. I have felt a bit better as the day has gone on but I’m waking up in the morning feeling like I’ve been in a boxing match.

Pumpkinpie66 · 28/10/2019 21:30

@Parsimon I know, I'm feeling so much worse in the mornings too. It's weird.

@MissMarple0203 oh no that sounds dreadful!
Hope everyone feels better soon!

@Pumkinpie66 thanks, we are getting there...just been an awful few weeks! Hope you feel better soon!

Glad I found this - don’t feel so guilty about being too tired to do the most basic of tasks now
