Sick of stupid love songs and songs about sex.

I wanna hear songs about being thirty and still not having a fecking clue with you are doing with your life. Where are those songs? I could shake my booty to that.

What do you wish they would write songs about?

A lot of my favourite bands write some really interesting songs, about death, suicide, abusive relationships, etc. It's nice to know it's not all sunshine and rainbows!

I do want an ode to chocolate though, or a nice song about drinking tea! Grin

I'm trying to imagine the Spice Girls singing a song about being peri menopausal and dealing with the kids and brain fog and being utterly knackered..."I'll tell you what I want, what I really really want - I wanna sleep, I wanna scream, I wanna really really zigga- oh I forgot"

I’d currently quite like a song about Take On Me being number one THIRTY-FIVE years ago (!), so why does Morten Harket look younger than me?

The Menzingers wrote a whole album about being 30 and not knowing what to do with your life. It’s called after the party and it’s mint.

The days I drop the teens to school I switch from classic fm to Heart or something on the radio
Although I like the songs I am constantly amazed that 99% are about sex, love, boys ‘n’ girls etc.
Very few about anything else.
I often think why aren’t people writing more about actual life stuff?

i listen to American Country music and it is much more realistic

Elizabeth McGovern (Cora from Downton) has a band called Sadie and the Hotheads. She writes about being a middle aged woman and all that goes with that. She says exactly the same thing about songs about first love and non stop sex aren't relevant to her anymore and no one writes about being a grown up. They're a quirky band and her voice is very individual but I love them. There's a great one in particular about being a wife and mother and doing all that goes with that but quietly seething and wanting to explode at everyone!
