Cold sores and newborn

SleeplessinEastSussex · 26/10/2019 09:31

I have woken up this morning with cold sores on my lips and have a 6 week old DD and aware it can be fatal to them.
What can I do to prevent this and speed up my healing

Lysine tablets from holland and Barrett, use straws when drinking.

Ask your midwife.

Don't panic. I had coldsores when my DD was little too- it was from being run down.
Don't kiss anyone- especially baby- or touch your face. Dry your face with paper towel and throw it away. Have one cup which is just for you and no one else uses. Wash your hands more carefully than usual, soap will do. Do it for as long as it takes to sing Happy Birthday (bit random I know). And get some cold sore cream from the chemist ASAP- they all have the same active ingredient but using quickly will help.
Hope it clears up soon Flowers

Compede patches to cover it. Very limited risk of cross contamination then.

Or Health Visitor. Can't remember how long midwives are involved after birth.
