Anyone with Newari heritage on here?

My lovely neighbours are Newari and apparently 28 October is a big day in the calendar - like New Year. We wanted to do something nice for them - do you give gifts? Any traditions? Thanks

I think Newari people celebrate both Hindu and Buddhist religious events so the New year you know about is probably like Diwali.

Today is Hindu new year. It isn’t really something to be celebrated with non-Hindu / Newari friends; it’s to visit close family etc. Diwali, which was yesterday, was something you could have given sweets / chocolates for but it’s too late now.

I'm sure it's not too late- never too late to be kind and thoughtful. You sound like lovely neighbours!

I am in India celebrating Diwali and have to agree with @tiggertogger, the neighbours have just come with a gift of sweets in the last few minutes so I am sure a gesture would be appreciated.
