MacBook Pro users?

I’m want to buy a MacBook Pro - I’d love your advice if you have one!

Questions:

  • is the touchbar tedious/gimmicky or a worthwhile feature?
  • opinions on the 2017 model? I know some of the specs are worse than the touchbar models, but if it’s still decent overall I’d probably just buy it!

I can buy the touchbar version with education discount, so the standard £1799 model will cost £1620. Not a massive saving but it’s there🤷🏼‍♀️ Or the lower GHz model for £1170. I could alternatively buy a 2017 (no touchbar) model for £999.

Apple have refurbished options but I feel hesitant- anyone tried these?

Thanks

i get refurbs everytime - no difference to getting a new one from what I can tell, saves you a lot also.

I have a MacBook Pro. Hi spec 2017 with the Touch Bar. It is gimmicky to be honest, I rarely use it. It has predictive text when typing but I find it quicker just to type. It is quick though, and I love it.

I have never tried a refurb.

Both DDs have the 2017 (no Touch Bar) and they're great. I have the previous model and it's still going strong. I love them, wouldn't go back to a PC.

Check the processor, I think 2017 models are dual core and 2018 are quad core which will be noticeably faster.

It depends what you need it for. I just bought a refurbished 2017 model and it’s perfect for my needs, which is uni work so online research and typing up assignments.

I didn’t need a quad core, all singing, all dancing one with a touch bar. To be honest the one I’ve got is still too much machine for me! Grin

I have the 13" Touch Bar. It's useful for fingerprint passwords on websites. To get the best out of it you need to be using Safari though.
I want to say it's a gimmick, but I'd miss it if it wasn't here.
