Handyman disappeared mid chat

Called a handyman in to look at 2 jobs I need doing, so he looked at them and then his phone went so he went outside to answer the call and hasn't come back, its been an hour and a half and he left his spirit level here. I stood at the door for 10 mins before realising he wasn't coming back as he didnt say bye just put his hand up like you do when you're saying "I'll just be a min". He lives up my road apparently. I didn't even get a quote.

How odd...
I suppose it could have been an emergency and he just pegged it. A frustrating ways roc your time though. No doubt he'll be back later for his spirit level.

In the meantime I'd be looking for a new handyman!

It's either a dire emergency or he's absent-minded. Either way, he'll be back for his spirit level (I'm married to a former brickie so trust me on this!) and that's when you'll find out which.

Might be useful to identify another handyman in the area, though, because the chances are that he will either be too busy dealing with the emergency or too unreliable to help you. Sorry!

It didn't sound like an emergency (he had it on speaker to start with) so it was definitely someone phoning to ask about a job. Just a bit strange! yeah might look around at other people for the job as well. Was going to go to bed (I work odd hours) but feel like I have to wait around in case he comes back now.

Ahh, well that was just bad manners on his part then. I'd lock up and go to bed. He can come back for his spirit level when it's more convenient to you.

Yeah thanks. Puts me off using him. Just emailed someone else who seems to have good reviews. These things always seem to happen to me.

No he did not! I text him about his level and he replied with sorry I'll come and get it, but he hasn't. Hope he comes when dh is about as he's weirded me out a bit.

nope. just messaged him again to say I can drop his level off as going past (he lives down my road) and having already stated that work is being done by someone else. no reply so far.

Forget his spirit level and being helpful and contacting him. He’s hardly shown you the same courtesy. If he comes when you’re in (or when you fancy opening the door) fine; if not he will have to wait or come back. Rude man.

I was messaging someone about a job. He asked for a couple of pics of the work that needed doing. I sent them and he never responded! Clearly he thought it wasn't worth his time/effort to do the job but I would have appreciated a quick "no thanks" after I sent all the pics! These people can be rude!

He didn’t want the work so set up an ‘escape call’, like when you’re on a blind date and need a get out if they turn out to be a wrong-un.
