Universal credit scam

There's a faceless account on Facebook appealing to universal credit claimants, saying he can get them £1000 within the hour if they send him their UC log in details, national insurance number, DOB etc. He makes a point of saying he doesn't need your bank details because the money will be paid in to whatever account you usually get your UC paid into - which will already be on the UC system.

The person behind the account is claiming he has an inside guy, working for the UC department within DWP who is pushing the money through. I assume this to be true otherwise how on earth could it happen?

When the UC claimant receives the money into their bank, courtesy of the dodgy UC employee, they have to transfer £200 to the bloke behind the account and £200 to another account to compensate them for their part in getting you the money.

How the hell has this slipped through the net? Surely DWP must realise they have a crook authorizing large amounts of money on a daily basis.

What the actual F?

Can you post a link to this?

MyDcAreMarvel · 22/10/2019 16:08

They don’t work for the Dwp it’s just the regular advance payment/loan.

Yes moment I'll get the details

Hmm
MyDcAreMarvel · 22/10/2019 16:11

This has been going on for months it’s a common scam , not just one person , and no corrupt Dwp employees.

Graphista · 22/10/2019 16:13

Well known scam been happening for ages, my local council on their Facebook page regularly remind locals not to fall for it.

AllTheWhoresOfMalta · 22/10/2019 16:14

I worked for a while for a charity that helped UC claimants. The DWP doesn’t know its arse from its elbow. I’m not surprised by this. The amount of blunders I saw with payments- both under and over- was shocking.

3ll3nor · 22/10/2019 16:15

I'm very confused as to how this person can get a UC claimant £1000 even if they've already had advances.

Surely if he was to apply for an advance, in somebodies name who has already had one, it would be rejected.

I hadn't heard of this before today. Hopefully you're right PP and there isn't an insider making this fraud possible.

DWP know fine well this is happening on a massive scale.

The message board also shows the exasperation of staff that the senior leadership of the DWP are unable to stop the scam.
"To say there is a risk around UC advances is possibly the understatement of the year," wrote one staff member, who added: "Money is pouring out of the public purse like lottery jackpots every day.
"All of us 'on the shop floor' are screaming about it but nobody is listening who has any influence."

Another employee wrote: "That such a loophole exists and we are receiving massive individual and organised attacks to our benefit system puts this department to shame.

Nikki3333 · 22/10/2019 19:43

This is a lie, he doesn't know anyone who works for them. You may have seen news this year, were people are saying they got scammed by giving someone there benefit details to get a loan and the person they give them to signed them up to universal credits or sometimes the persons on universal credits, gives the details to someone who gets them a loan or advanced payment. The truth of the matter is that the scammer and the benefit recipient are both scammer the system. I've been offered to have it done for me sign me up and get me money to give them half. The recipient knows what's what but pretends they got scammed so they don't have to pay it back, they planon doing it every 6weeks aswell. In short the tax payers are getting scammed out of millions they do have to pay!! So let's make sure the dwpmakes sure this money is payed back its vile.

It's been going on for ages and they've only just started closing the loopholes. These guys coach the person through a claim, declare massive housing costs and 10 kids all on dla to get the max advance. The person then gives the guy £££ of the advance. Guy tells them the money gets wiped off even though it doesn't. Person then gets called in for an interview under caution and have to pay it all back plus a penalty.
Massive head ache, thousands of hours of manpower wasted and lots of people screwed over

MsFrosty · 22/10/2019 21:01

I would also say that although there have been some vulnerable people caught up in this, the majority knew what they were doing

MsFrosty · 22/10/2019 21:03

If you report to facebook they usually shut the account down
