Oh hell

Posted yesterday in desperation as I've got a nasty sinus infection that has wiped me right out.

I was starting to think that it might possibly be getting better and that a walk in the fresh air would do me good today. Went downstairs for some breakfast and Lemsip tabs and came back to bed.

In bed I reached over to get my coffee and I've hurt my back!

I can hardly move! I tried getting out of bed to get some heat pads I've got in the cupboard but I just couldn't manage it. I got to the end of the bed but couldn't take my hands off it to put my full weight on my feet/legs. It just hurt too much.

Managed to get myself back into bed with difficulty and I'm now wondering what to do next. I have one inch of lukewarm coffee left, got my laptop, phone and charger, got a tap on this floor so I won't die of thirst. But what now?

Saline spray for my sinuses has just run out and I've got another one... downstairs Sad.

What do I do? I'm home alone all week as the DCs are with their father for half term. I have friends and neighbours I could call (some even have keys) but I'd have to go downstairs to take the safety lock off the door. And they can't fix my back!

Oh hell. WWYD?

And also: coughing hurts Sad This is shit.

Is there any chance that it will get better as the day goes on? Hopefully a few hours rest will help you recover enough to get downstairs and take the lock off the door?

Hope you feel better soon!

noperightoutofthere · 22/10/2019 11:18

I'm not sure whether it will get better as the day goes on. I did this once before, in July, and it got worse for two days :( Then better.

I think I will manage to take the lock off the door at some stage. If the house was on fire I know I could drag myself down there so...

I know lots of people have it (much) worse but this was so not what I had planned for today! Was trying to get better!

You have a muscle spasm in your back, and I'm sorry to say that getting up and walking around as much as possible, even if you're slower than a turtle, is the best treatment.

noperightoutofthere · 22/10/2019 11:24

No it's good to hear, aquamarine! That's exactly the type of thing I need to know.

I will try again in a few minutes.

On the plus side my sinus headache now seems less painful in comparison GrinGrin

I have a spot in my back that kicks off every once in a while, seemingly for no apparent reason which is always fun. Last time it tweaked because I was folding a towel. Confused

The pain is really mental, total agony, but just laying down and not moving only makes it worse. I hobble around like a 200 year old lady and it will start to loosen up. I also take breaks and use a heating pad.

noperightoutofthere · 22/10/2019 11:34

Thanks so much aqua. Let me have another go at getting those heating pads.

deep breath it's not gonna be easy!

Could it be a slipped disc? My mum slipped a disc when getting a tomato out of the fridge ...

spiderlight · 22/10/2019 11:36

Oh no - you poor thing!! :(

noperightoutofthere · 22/10/2019 11:38

@thecatneuterer I do think aqua's right and it's a muscle spasm.

I think I need to work on strengthening my abs and back. Not today though obvs Grin

OK. Got my heat pad, got my spray from downstairs, got another coffee.

I'm so wiped out from this cold, I really couldn't walk hobble around the house for more than 15 minutes. But I'll drink my coffee and then get up again and have another go. Perhaps try some yoga stretches and find a podcast to take me on a walk around the block.

Good luck - I was nearly incapacitated by a spasm recently, walking it off was the only effective thing no matter how bad it was to start with. I got myself a standing desk and retrained myself not to stop still as much as possible.

Aquamarine1029 · 22/10/2019 12:08

You poor thing. The universe has really given you hell today. Very veerrrry slow stretching can definitely help, just take it very gently so you don't keep triggering it. It's hell! It's so hellish that I actually laugh out loud when it happens to me because it's so fucking ridiculous.

MarianaMoatedGrange · 22/10/2019 12:18

I never realised towel folding was an extreme sport! Grin

Hope you feel better soon, OP Flowers

noperightoutofthere · 22/10/2019 13:19

Oh my goodness this has to be the best yoga for back pain ever:

Not a magic cure but I feel so much better.

Now another sit-down and then back to hobbling around the house Grin
