Should I go to my ESA appointment even though I haven’t got a copy of my sick note?

I have got an appointment at the Job Centre to claim ESA. My SSP with my employer has run out. I sent the latest copy of my sick note to my employer as per their requirements and I was still getting SSP from them at that time.

My employer only gave me 1 weeks notice that I now needed to apply for ESA. I’ve arranged the appointment and thought I could get a copy of my sick note from the GP, I’m willing to pay the cost if necessary. The receptionist said I should have photocopied it myself and she can’t give me a printout. She has to ask the GP to reissue and sign one.

It’s unlikely that this will be done by tomorrow morning. Should I still go to my appointment or will they be annoyed with me for not having all the documents?

Yes, go. Better to go and explain than not turn up. You won't get payment til they have the sick note, but they can start the process of getting your claim opened.

Yes, go. I would imagine you won’t be the first in that situation.

And remember if they ask about how your illness affects you to make it clear if what you can do causes you pain/makes you breathless/causes fatigue etc.

Ok I will prepare to go. Will they actually ask me capability questions? My job is still open for me and I’m just claiming contributions based ESA.
