Anyone got a walk in shower?

As in, no door. Do you like it? Is it as good as an enclosed shower with a door?

I like ours, like it more than the ones I've tried with a door. Some water splashes out the end but no more than what drips off the bottom of a door

Allycumpooster · 20/10/2019 21:46

Yes, I love it. Its in our en suit, I had the room made into a wet room. I do squeegee the floor after a shower just so it dries quickly.

rainbowunicorn · 20/10/2019 21:51

yes it is the best thing we have done, easy to clean and feels much more spacious

Thanks for replying. I don't want to be squeegeeing the floor daily to be honest. I prefer the look of them but am thinking that the practicality might win out...

We do and if I did it again I would either have underfloor heating or have a slim profile tray.

We have wet board on the walls and I blade down the walls and floor to help it dry quicker.

RandomMess · 20/10/2019 21:53

Not having a door isn't an issue on mine?

Sizeofalentil · 20/10/2019 21:56

Yes, I love it. It's big and open enough for me to sit toddler DD in a baby bath in there while I'm showering so that we can wash at the same time.

HolyGuac · 20/10/2019 22:04

I'm not a fan, ours is large but feels too open and almost chilly for me at the open end. We did have underfloor heating installed and a towel warmer rail so maybe that's why.
If you do get one, make sure they put the controls as you go in not under the shower as usual otherwise you will get soaked whenever you turn it on. I prefer my shower to run for a minute rather than getting under it and turning it on.

Jeleste · 20/10/2019 22:22

We have one. Its just a glass on the long side and the front is open. I love it because its very easy to clean and it looks really nice.
BUT we used to have a steam shower before that was fully enclosed (it was there when we moved in and we changed it because it was broken and annoying to close/open and the water temperature couldnt be changed because the handle was always stuck). Anyways, the only downside is that its freezing in winter when i want to get out of the shower. With the enclosed shower the steam always kept me really warm while i was drying myself and now as soon as i turn off the water im freezing, because theres no steam kept in ;)
Its only an issue in winter, but sometimes i wish for my old warm shower back!

Delatron · 20/10/2019 22:27

I have one in my en-suite and now prefer the enclosed shower in main bathroom. I feel too chilly? As another poster said the door keeps the steam in and it’s warmer in the enclosed shower.
Looks good though....

RandomMess · 20/10/2019 22:35

Ours is a small room and have a tall radiator/towel warmer at the open end?

popcornpaws · 20/10/2019 23:55

Ours is huge so no splashes outside the shower, its like a glass wall, almost the full length of the bathroom.
As another poster mentioned though, get the controls on the wall, well away from the shower head!

Chocolatedeficitdisorder · 20/10/2019 23:59

I'm about to refit our main bathroom and have looked at showers.
I originally planned to get a walk-in but I've changed my mind and I'm going for a large (900x1200mm) offset quad which is plenty big enough.

dontgobaconmyheart · 21/10/2019 00:11

Our rental house has one and I don't like it, so cold in the autumn and winter; theres just something about it I don't like; it doesn't feel homely!

Apolloanddaphne · 21/10/2019 00:18

I have and I love it. We had a tiny cubicle with a door before and you could barely move in it. Now we have a lovely spacious shower. Ours is all along one wall so enclosed on three sides and the shower screen part is shorter so you can enter. No draughts at all.

MarshaBradyo · 21/10/2019 00:20

Yes it’s much better

Bloodybridget · 21/10/2019 02:18

Yes, and I love it, but the controls are under the shower head which is slightly awkward (I don't get soaked when turning on, just reach my arm in quickly and sometimes get a bit of water on it). Last person to use squeegees the glass screens and floor, we are in a hard water area and don't want limescale building up.

ShippingNews · 21/10/2019 02:45

If the floor is tiled correctly with a proper slope , taking all the water straight to the outlet, an open shower is great. I love mine , it's spacious and very functional.

Kinsters · 21/10/2019 04:48

My parents have one and it's ok though poorly designed as is apt to flood into the bathroom which is not a wet room.

My in-laws have one as well and it feels very cold plus again the design is poor and loads of water leaks out onto the floor.

CulinaryDesign · 21/10/2019 05:38

We have a walk-in shower. Show apartment and cheapest possible fittings, so it's with a shower curtain. I said it was the first thing we'd change....5 years later, we still have a shower curtain! Live in a hard water area and it's so much easier to chuck in the washing machine every now and again than to keep a door clean.

MonsteraCheeseplant · 21/10/2019 08:11

That's really helpful everyone thank you very much. I had thought about it being cold and I think that's decided it for me.

We're about to get our bathroom done & had considered one but have opted for an enclosure.

A few people had mentioned feeling chilly & some said the water sprayed onto the wall at the far end (onto their towel rail) as their shower was so powerful.
