Just seen a post on Facebook...

OP posts:
Hollyhobbi · 20/10/2019 21:22

Isn't she afraid of the risks of having a disabled child? What if she dies in childbirth ? Are they part of the quiverful crowd in America (21 kids and counting)?

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 20/10/2019 21:23

They won’t be getting any tax credits for the children born after April 2017 (I think it was April?) nor any of the ones over school age. Also, I’m almost sure they said his income from the bakery exceeds the child benefit threshold so no child benefit and no tax credits at all.

ANiceLuxury · 20/10/2019 21:24

According to google she only has less than 5% chance of getting pregnant each month at her age.

LoveNote · 20/10/2019 21:24

what happened to Tillie? seems like she needs their full attention....

puppyconfetti · 20/10/2019 21:25

Bollocks they get child benefit and tax credits the same as the rest of us. No way will he be drawing a salary of over £40k if it cuts them off. They have not hidden the fact they get these though so not sure why people are now saying they dont claim?

lynsey91 · 20/10/2019 21:25

They will still get child benefit and I can;t even begin to imagine how much that has amounted to in over 21 years!

HollyGoLoudly1 · 20/10/2019 21:25

They pay their way. Do they?
Unless the bakery they own is the entire Gregg's company then they MUST be receiving a hell of a lot of child benefit and tax credits. Then of course the costs of 22 births, children going through school, GP and dental services etc. etc. etc. What they may pay in taxes cannot possibly come close to balancing it out.

Their kids seem happy Do they? I don't agree. They're all taken care of in terms of a roof over their head, food etc. but it's physically impossible that they are all emotionally/mentally looked after. There is literally not enough time in a day to parent 22 children. I don't care what they say (out of interest, I don't actually know what their response is to that question), I do not accept that it is possible.

Drabarni · 20/10/2019 21:27

I find it hard to read these threads.
Just listen to yourselves vilifying a couple who have been failed so terribly.
Both out of the care system and the mentality that can go around babies and your own blood, i know.
That poor woman needed and continues to need help and our pity, not hatred.

puppyconfetti · 20/10/2019 21:27

It really worries me that people who have watched their shows or follow them on social media think they are good parents. You would have to be blind to miss the amount of issues there.

Passthecherrycoke · 20/10/2019 21:28

@lynsey91 sorry to keep hammering on about this but do you realise they have a whole media career now? They’re rich, why would they give up all that to claim some scrappy benefits? Who would give up hundreds of thousands of pounds so they can get their £70 a week tax credit or whatever?

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 20/10/2019 21:29

Her fertile years will probably run on later than it would if she’d only had 2/3 children. 21 pregnancies is about 21 years of not ovulating where she normally would. Of course the quality of eggs declines with age so yes the fertility won’t last til she is nearly 70 but it will go on longer than it would have without all the pregnancies. Sadly.

My dh is a baker . He tells me the profit margin - the owners take home 16k a month and that's a small family run business too so I'm doubtful that the state pays feck all.

Live and let live .

NormaBean · 20/10/2019 21:30

do you mean you expect him to just be prosecuted because it’s known it happened?

Obviously not now, as you say no complaint etc. I’m more surprised that it is well known what this man has done and not only is it brushed under the carpet but he’s been given a bloody show.

sglod1on · 20/10/2019 21:30

Someone calculated their tax credits....

Passthecherrycoke · 20/10/2019 21:31

I don’t know that anyone thinks they’re good parents. There is no way they can help all those children achieve their potential at school, indulge in spirting talents, get to know their friends etc.

OnTopOfTheWardrobe · 20/10/2019 21:31

16K a month would be an amazing earn! Did you mean to say per month?

CanaryBlossom · 20/10/2019 21:32

I totally disagree that the kids seem happy. They just don’t know any better.

Their house is like an orphanage, it’s all about routine, but there’s no time or interest in any parental 1:1 attention for any of the children other than the youngest 2. One of the documentaries showed that they were locking some of the children in their bedrooms at night because it was like musical beds. There’s no lovely bedtime routine, bath, cuddling up for a bedtime story, it’s carnage.

What if the parents were to die? DH and I have made provision in our will for what we’d like to happen with our DC in the event that the worst happens... who would take on 20+ kids?

I think they’re very irresponsible and both need therapy or sterilising and they absolutely need parenting classes because there’s very mutuel aft

CanaryBlossom · 20/10/2019 21:33

**I think they’re very irresponsible and both need therapy or sterilising, and they absolutely need parenting classes because there’s very little parenting actually happening in that house.

puppyconfetti · 20/10/2019 21:34

@Passthecherrycoke

A lot of the things they have are 'gifted' not salaried, so they can continue to claim and it isn't a measly £70 a week.

RainMinusBow · 20/10/2019 21:35

Well according to some here on MN it is selfish to have children full stop. I've been flamed because I'm pregnant by my fiancé with my third...and without my ex-husband's blessing(!)

HotSince82 · 20/10/2019 21:35

If he earns 40K and supposing 13 eligible children they can claim £2132.75 every 4 weeks in CTC plus £200 or so in CB per week.
It all adds up to over 38K per year....

Millymollymandybestie · 20/10/2019 21:36

I was only saying to my mum the other day she clearly has no clingy kids ( At the time my son would let go of my leg) otherwise she wouldn’t have had so many

hellenbackagen · 20/10/2019 21:37

Yes intop dh boss takes home 16k pet month so I doubt very much this family are claiming benefits.
That's a small family run bakery owned by 2 people.

Baking is lucrative. Massive profit margin.

lynsey91 · 20/10/2019 21:37

Well if they are not claiming benefits they have still had a fortune in them over the years. As I said, child benefit alone must be a massive amount and they definitely were claiming tax credits.

I find it hard to believe a bakery makes that much money. They can't even have a decent website for it.

What a joke of a world we live in when families like this make money from being selfish and stupid
