Just need a rant really. We've lived in our house (2 bedroom Victorian end of terrace) for 5 years now. The current neighbours have lived nextdoor for a year now and the third lot of people to rent it since we've lived here. We never really had any issues with the previous tenants.
From the day they moved in, they've been annoying. They started moving in one evening about 9pm, the time wasn't an issue but the fact that they were swearing really loudly about 'shit parking' and 'shit walls in here' didn't exactly give us the best first impression.
Since then they have been SO loud - loud music, loud telly, loud voices (they seem to shout at each other rather than speak), ridiculously loud sex! Etc. The thing is these houses have thin walls and I know they must hear our children (3 and 7) sometimes and I accept hearing some noise from their side too but they literally take the piss. Two weeks ago they started playing loud music at 10pm til 1.30am but I was too worried to knock and say anything as they were obviously drunk and didn't know if they'd be aggressive etc. Last weekend they had his young son over and they started playing music at 9.30pm and was so loud that it was vibrating on our walls. DH (the most patient, tolerant man I know) decided enough was enough and at 10.15pm he knocked on their door and politely asked them to turn it down which to be fair, they did.
What really gets me though is that we've put up with a lot without saying anything, last weekend was the first time. And they must know they're super loud without us telling them, I mean in summer they were blasting their music so loud in the garden that the whole road must've been able to hear it. But we put up with that shit...but the very moment we dare to make a bit more noise than usual - they're on us. The first time was my son's birthday back in April. My DB and 2 DNs were over and 5 of us were sitting quietly watching a film and DD and DN were playing upstairs. Then DB and DNs left about 8pm and as I was waving them off, the neighbour opened his door and told us to keep the noise down as all they could hear was stomping around up and down. Apparently. I was so shocked that we were being told to keep quiet by the noisy neighbours that I sort of just said okay.
Then today, we got home at 4.30pm and DH was playing with DCs and yes I admit they were a bit noisy but it was just kids making noise, they were playing for 5 minutes when there was bashing at our front door, DH jumped up to open it but there was no one there - by we heard nextdoors front door close (our doors are right next to each other) so obviously it was them!
I'm just really pissed off that we've let ourselves put up with all their noise for a year now and yet the minute we are slightly loud (never music or anything like that) they make us feel shit. I think we might just have to pull them up on it every time they start making a noise.
Sorry for the rant! Does anyone else have shitty neighbours?
