Yup I’ve done it....I’ve also been to Perth, Australia for a three day event. I no longer work in event management- I am much happier!

Parker231 · 20/10/2019 20:48

I’ve did one day in Boston each fortnight for a meeting - did it for three months. Some meetings have to be face to face.

CountFosco · 20/10/2019 20:54

Well I've done it. Made more sense for 3 of us to go there than 4 of them to come here. And actually I think at the beginning of a project a face to face achieves far more than a million telecons. Going out for dinner together and getting a bit pissed makes a big difference. I wouldn't want to do it every couple of weeks (telecon frequency) but every 6 months or so it is valuable.

bigchris · 20/10/2019 21:05

Oh thanks every one! You can tell I'm not well travelled !

I'm flying out tomorrow to the East Coast (need to change flights so 14hrs total travel time) for a day meeting and back on Wednesday on the first flight. Friends who envy my 'business travel' have no idea what they are talking about.

Adversecamber22 · 20/10/2019 21:38

One of my colleagues flew to NYC for a meeting and flew back on the same day.

HuloBeraal · 20/10/2019 21:41

Yes DH did it all the time. 2-3 day trips to NYC, Boston etc.

ArsenicGreen · 20/10/2019 22:24

I once flew to Atlanta for a day of meetings and was on a flight back less than 24hrs later. I got a bollocking from my boss for going home for a shower before I went in to the office.

skippy67 · 20/10/2019 22:26

Why did you ask?

HoldMeCloserTonyDanza · 21/10/2019 00:18

I do one-night trips to the East Coast not infrequently. DH used to do one-nighters to California bimonthly (I never spend less than 3 nights in California but I have different commitments there).

alltoomuchrightnow · 21/10/2019 01:06

My friend does it every few months for work...in fact she's just got back

Bluesheep8 · 21/10/2019 06:47

Why are you asking?

bigchris · 21/10/2019 07:57

Thanks for the replies

I was asking because I was suspicious that someone who was saying this was actually doing this

But the point of my thread has been answered so thank you x

It must be terrible for the environment !

Marylou2 · 21/10/2019 08:06

Of course it is. I've been much further, hundreds of times. Why?

Marylou2 · 21/10/2019 08:07

Sorry just seen your response!

BrieAndChilli · 21/10/2019 08:09

I had to fly to Barcelona once with a suitcase of stuff, hand it over and fly back. (No it wasn’t drugs! )

bigchris · 21/10/2019 08:11

Ha ha Brie !!

My horizons have been broadened by this thread!

Yup. Work in London Monday morning, then fly Monday evening (London), arrive Monday night (Boston), all day meetings Tuesday and Wednesday, fly Wednesday night, arrive back in London Thursday morning. Straight to work a full day in London after shower and breakfast. Pretty much zero sleep for 3 nights (2 in Boston and 1 on plane).

bigchris · 21/10/2019 09:12

Blingy - I domt know how you do it, I'm in awe ! You must have flying, packing etc down to a fine art

OP posts:
bigchris · 21/10/2019 09:13

Is that every week ?? Are you all in IT or something ?
Well at least now I know it's plausible that he's goimg to Boston for work Wednesday to Friday

OP posts:
Benes · 21/10/2019 09:15

Work trips like that are relatively common. Is there a reason you don't think he's telling the truth?

Shannith · 21/10/2019 09:18

As everyone has said, pretty normal in some jobs.

Like PP mentioned friends who envied my business travel made me smile sometimes. Of course it's not all bad, but it can be brutal - and the was pre DC.

Blingysolightly · 21/10/2019 09:26

Oh no, not every week! Although I know people who do that. Average once a month, I do a trip like that, though there are times of the year when I can have a week like that every other week.

I have done Wednesday to Friday to Boston. The BA flight is at around 11am, gets you in early afternoon Boston time. You could do meetings Wednesday afternoon, dinner that night, meetings all day Thursday and get the 7pm flight back which gets you back Friday morning at about 6am. So entirely plausible.

Kanga83 · 21/10/2019 09:44

Yes. A close friends husbands regularly does 8-13 hour flights for basically half a days meeting then back. He's permanently knackered but travels all over the world.
