Recommend me a very small 5 door car!

We live in an area with mostly single track lanes and I’ve scraped our current car too many times (Vauxhall Mokka) so I need to downsize Blush

I love little Fiat 500s and Mini Coopers but really need 5 doors for my DC. Can anyone recommend a small, economical 5 door car? I do well under 10k miles a year and always short trips (use car daily however).
It would be great to get something even slightly stylish like the Fiat or Mini but can’t seem to find a five door equivalent?!

Any ideas welcome!

I had a Vauxhall Agila for years and it was great.

TweeBee · 20/10/2019 10:53

I’ve got a seat mii - same as VW up but cheaper! I love it.

GreenTulips · 20/10/2019 10:53

If it’s all back lanes you need decent shock absorbers for the conditions

I’m not sure a small car will be the best fit

Renault cleo.

Toyota aygo. Ours has bombed round country lanes for 2 years and still going strong

Mix of little lanes and town/village driving (never motorways) - I never need to go over 40 mph! Grin

How’s the boot space in the Mii and Aygo? Would it fit a buggy?
I had a Peugeot 107 when DC was first born and had to get rid as couldn’t fit the buggy in the boot

A Mokka isn't exactly small, so pretty much any 'small family hatchback' is going to be smaller. Don't overthink it.

Fiesta, Golf, Polo, Civic, i20, something by Kia or Skoda....

Buy an older one (5 years or so) and worry less about scratching it Wink

I have a seat mii too and very pleased with it. Very reasonable and cheaper than the almost identical VW go model. (Also same as Skoda citigo). I went with seat and worked out the best deal.

I drive a single track road daily and haven't scraped my car. Are you being bullied by other road users to move over into the ditch? If so it will only get worse with a tiny car.

Fookadook · 20/10/2019 11:02

I have an Hyundai i10 which I really like. I could fit my pram in the back with a squeeze and a change bag. It fits two car seats comfortably.

veryboredtoday · 20/10/2019 11:03

Boot is pretty small. I can get shopping in but not sure buggy would go in. You may have to go up a model.
We have a bigger car so can always swap cars when a bigger boot needed but it's very rare and both me and dh prefer to take the seat mii as easier to park etc.
I bomb down a 70 mph road for 30 minutes to get to work and it copes very well.

I have a Skoda Fabia and I love it! It's not as small as a fiat 500 or similar, but it's very narrow - I live in an area with little country lanes too and it is definitely small enough to cope comfortably. It doesn't feel small though, we can fit in it easily and the boot is an ok size. And it's really nice to drive!

Brianna83 · 20/10/2019 11:05

It may not be the "style" you're after OP but I have a Skoda Fabia and I bloody love it. It's much smaller than you think and I can get it into the tightest and most awkward parking spaces. I actually have the estate now (boot is masssssssive!) but I had the non estate version previously and the boot was still a good size (and fit my 50kg dog in no problem at all!). I implore you to go and look at one and try one and don't just write it off because it's a Skoda! It's economical, reliable and so reasonable cost wise.

Brianna83 · 20/10/2019 11:06

Yeah @Swearwolf - Fabia owners unite!!

Diorissimo1985 · 20/10/2019 11:07

Err I don’t think I’m getting bullied, it’s more that I’m not very good at reversing Blush particularly when there’s a tractor coming towards me!

We have a Honda Jazz, which I specifically chose as it's quite narrow but has a reasonable boot - absolutely fine for our pram. I'd really recommend it as a car but not 100% sure about the country roads.

Diorissimo1985 · 20/10/2019 11:09

Brianna83 you sound like my sister! Except she hasn’t got a dog so I know it’s not you. She adores her Fabia estate.

I have a 5 door mini and love it.

BestIsWest · 20/10/2019 11:10

Another Fabia owner here! Brilliant little car. Agree that it is narrow - it’s one of the few which fit in my garage and still allow me to get out.

SunnySideDownBriefly · 20/10/2019 11:10

The Mini Hatch comes in 5-door! Has a bigger boot now too.

Swearwolf · 20/10/2019 11:11

Yesssss @Brianna83! I would never have even looked at one, but I was looking for a new car and a friend was selling his Fabia, and it's honestly the best car I've ever had!

astridforty · 20/10/2019 11:11

ŠKODA Citigo - bought following a recommendation on one of the frugal living threads. It’s 5 door, surprisingly big inside - I manage with 2 lanky teenagers in the back, baby seat in front. Very economical to run. It’s the same as the Seat Mii and VW Up but all come with slight variations. I found the ŠKODA had a nicer finish but was cheaper than the Up.

Diorissimo1985 · 20/10/2019 11:13

I see loads of Daihatsu Atrais round here... narrow, practical ... but I can’t bring myself to go there Blush

Recommend me a very small 5 door car!

Kia Picanto! I miss mine!
