Recommend me a very small 5 door car!

We live in an area with mostly single track lanes and I’ve scraped our current car too many times (Vauxhall Mokka) so I need to downsize Blush

I love little Fiat 500s and Mini Coopers but really need 5 doors for my DC. Can anyone recommend a small, economical 5 door car? I do well under 10k miles a year and always short trips (use car daily however).
It would be great to get something even slightly stylish like the Fiat or Mini but can’t seem to find a five door equivalent?!

Any ideas welcome!

Love my Aygo

We have a VW Up (only as DH used to work for VW not cos we're snobby about Seat or Skoda) and it's great. We can fit DCs car seat in the back and depending on the age of the DC you should think about downsizing your pushchair. We have a GB pockit+ stroller which folds up really tiny and we can still get shopping, DHs gym bag etc in too. I think Mothercare do their own cheaper version too. (again we're not brand snobs we got ours cheap when toys r us closed down)

Toyota Aygo, reliable, cheap to run, looks cute. Easy to park :)

Livebythecoast · 20/10/2019 11:25

I have a Kia Picanto but admittedly the boot is small - lovely to drive though Smile

GetUpAgain · 20/10/2019 11:25

Renault Zoe electric. Teeny tiny, 5 doors, practically free to use! No road tax and doesn't cost much to charge.

Windydaysuponus · 20/10/2019 11:27

Mazda 2 owner here!!
Love it!!
Gone from a 7 seater Chevrolet to small!!

Doctordyr · 20/10/2019 11:29

VW UP! all the way. (Or Seat Mii/ Skôda Citigo which are basically the same cars)

katielilly · 20/10/2019 11:31

VW Up
Fab little car

MaudebeGonne · 20/10/2019 11:32

Skids Citigo! Fab little car, cheap to run and really nippy.

MsJuniper · 20/10/2019 11:33

I have a Ford BMax which is built on a Fiesta chassis so isn't very wide. It has sliding back doors which is handy for getting children out.

katielilly · 20/10/2019 11:34

McLaren pushchair fitted nicely in my old VW Fox.

Chocolatedeficitdisorder · 20/10/2019 11:35

My son got an oldish Nissan Note recently to learn to drive in.
It's a fab wee car, very light and nippy. Tall enough to make getting in and out of very easy. It feels higher up than a small car but it's still narrow. I like it and would get one for myself except it's too small for my dogs.

badgermushrooms · 20/10/2019 11:40

I'm here to add to the Aygo suggestions. Mine does fine on little country roads, though I've not tested it it winter weather yet. The boot isn't very long front to back but it is surprisingly deep, so you might be OK with a buggy if it isn't too bulky.

It's got a reversing camera too, which really helps with zooming back into passing places. It's also facilitated my new hobby, parking smugly in tiny gaps while the 4x4s drive round in circles with nowhere to go.

Spaghettio · 20/10/2019 11:40

I've got a 5-door Mini Cooper. It's fab!

FiercyMacFierceFace · 20/10/2019 11:43

Me too @Spaghettio! I was just coming in to say that - fab wee car!

Olinguito · 20/10/2019 11:46

We have a Skoda Fabia too - I'd thoroughly recommend a Fabia or a Skoda Citigo if you want to go even smaller.

catnidge · 20/10/2019 11:46

I love my fiesta. It has a good sized boot and holds well in ice/snow.

Spaghettio · 20/10/2019 11:47

@FiercyMacFierceFace - it is! I always wanted a Mini but was adamant I needed 5 doors. I was so happy when I got mine! It's great and nippy in small spaces and you can get it kitted out with cameras and beepers if you struggle with reversing. (I haven't got these - the car is so small it's so easy to manoeuvre!)

NotTheMrMenAgain · 20/10/2019 11:48

Nissan Cube - quirky looking, amazing visibility for reversing, like a TARDIS inside - so much space! Love mine. Got stuck down a lane in Cornwall which became a muddy, rutted track, which became a dead end on a cliff....it was dark, raining and misty and we still managed to reverse it out so far, the turn around and make it out alive Smile. Mine speaks to me in Japanese whenever I start the engine - dunno what she's saying but I love her!

MummaGiles · 20/10/2019 11:51

You can get 5 door minis??

BoogleMcGroogle · 20/10/2019 11:56

I have a five door Mini Cooper. It's little ( I couldn't see it between two cars in Sainsbury's yesterday and thought it had been stolen!) but has a spacious back and boot. It's very nippy to drive and I have various added bells and whistles. Only downside is that it's five door but a genuine four seater. There's no back middle seat. Mine's moondust grey and very pretty 🙂

Toyota Yaris
They really hold their price too

Dowser · 20/10/2019 12:02

Love my five year old red Toyota auris
Best car I’ve ever had and I’ve had lots of toyotas
I do a lot of lanes in Dorset and always fine
I feel like I’m driving a Ferrari

TheMonaOgg · 20/10/2019 12:02

Seat Mii!! I love mine to bits. It's a bit of a tardis on the inside too, I took one of my extremely tall sons with me when I went to look at it (he's 6'3") and he could sit comfortably in every seat including the rear ones with someone sitting in front of him. The Seat Mii, Volkswagen Up and Skoda City Go are all essentially the same car with just the trim varying.
