Should I move DS to a toddler bed

DS is 18 months. We are thinking that in the new year (when he'll be 20 months) we might move him from a cot to a toddler bed.
He really hates the cot. When he wakes at night (every two hours) he stands up and screams the place down. However if he's in our bed he's quite happy and can easily jump down on his own (he's been taught to do it safely and has been doing so since he was about a year old).
I'm starting to think the bars of the cot are the problem and he'd be happier without. He's not a child who moves around a lot at night but we'd put something on the floor just in case.

Would you do it at that age?

My 17 mo sleeps better in my bed at the moment, but that's because we're in the bed with him not because he hates his cot. I'm not changing his cot to a toddler bed until he starts trying to climb out. It might be worth a try, but it might not actually make any difference.

Yes, I moved my DS to a bed at a similar age when he learnt to climb out of his cot!
