Barcelona - anyone live there.......

Any Mumsnetters live in Barcelona?

We are due to fly out Monday and between the civil unrest and weather that's forecast I'm tempted to cancel and lose flight costs.

Anemone live there and tell me how much I'm likely to be affected by the protests? We are staying centrally.

We’re due to fly tomorrow for DS 13th birthday, we’ve just cancelled Sad.

We’ve not taken this decision lightly and DS is gutted.

I've just spoken to my oldest daughter and she seems ok. At the moment all I will lose is flights which were booked a year ago so quite cheap. If we go it's going to be another £1k for hotel and spending minimum for what looks like not a great time.

@Toomanycats99 Theres the option to translate on the bottom of the posts 👍🏻

We’ll lose our flights and our deposit for our accommodation, so roughly £500.

It’s not worth getting caught up in anything, I’m gutted as never been to Barca before but can risk putting my family in any precarious situation.

Not Barcelona but Spain. I wouldn't go BUT can't you still fly and go to one of the coastal towns? Girona, Fuengirolas, All the Dali houses are there and amazing. Or portaventura and Reus? Surely an airbnb and hire car would be cheaper than that now we're out of season.

I was actually really shocked yesterday having lunch in a bar with the new on the telly in the background showing the scale of the violence - I don't think the uk telly would show that? Certainly not at lunchtime? It looked like a civil war.

I looked at girona for day trips out when it was just the weather and that's even worse!!!

I think it is both combined - according to news there was general strike yesterday and transport is affected so we may not be able to get anywhere anyway.

Oh yes there was a general strike I'd forgotten about that. Maybe if you could get the train down to valencia from the airport. I probably wouldn't go into Barcelona though. I think @ElQuintoConyo lives there maybe she can advise.

@Ofitck

Hotel cancelled!

I just think I would rather come back when we can make the most of it. Will rebook for next year.

It's a shame as I have been looking forward to it - was booked a year ago. But don't want to spend all the money and have a miserable time.

I live in a small village North of Girona and everything was shut for the strike yesterday. Moving around has been difficult for about 5 days. Roads blocked etc. I think the violence will continue in bigger towns and cities and it's all over Catalonia. The airport , El Pratt, is mostly accessible but you need a boarding pass to get in and onward travel is difficult. Unless you are visiting friends, I would risk coming.
