Have posted on travel but im excited and impatient

First holiday abroad in 18 years and first one as an adult, children will be 10 and 13 in august next year when we go. Hotel is in Afandou, 10 minute walk to the beach with a bustop right outside. Partner isnt keen on hiring a car.
Whats good out there? Where is a must to visit, we love culture, beautiful sights etc.
Any tips on what to do and what not to do, how are the people?

Anything anyone could tell me would be great.
Thanks

Hi,
I went to Rhodes last year for my first holiday in 8 years had the most fantastic time.
Which side of the island are you staying on as we were on the side where we could see Turkey and the beaches were very stoney had to buy beach shoes to wear in the water.
We were all inclusive so only really had snacks out and about which were slightly inflated prices due to it being a tourist area.
Take a trip to Rhodes Old town but wear good comfy shoes as it's beautiful but alot of walking.
Also if you go to the harbour there will be alot of people offering you boat trips and day trips.
For kids those ages I highly recommend the yellow submarine boat trip. I doesn't take you far but they have a diving dancing with the fish as it's a glass bottom boat.
Definitely take or hire snorkelling gear as the ocean is so clear and you see alot we smuggled bread out to feed the fish.
We did notice alot of cats around normally friendly and our hotel had 2 dogs who always lying around outside reception.
Have a wonderful time as there are truly some beautiful places over there.

I always use Trip advisor forum, you get lots pf tips and recommendations.

Rhodes is in my to do list. The historical stuff, the Palace, Colossus of Rhodes and the Acropolis look like they are well worth a visit.

I stayed in Lindos when I went to Rhodes. Took a bus from there to Rhodes and enjoyed the old town and marina. I can recommend Lindos if you plan on doing day trips to other parts of the island. It has an acropolis, 2 beautiful beaches and a lovely town to explore with amazing food. Also noticed a water park halfway between Rhodes and Lindos when we were on the bus, but didn't visit. Might be good with the age of your DC.

Lindos is gorgeous, the little pedestrianised streets are lovely. We’ve always stayed in Pefkos due to the beaches being better, but done trips to Rhodes Old Town and Lindos.

Im in Rhodes just now - one of my favourite places to visit and the first time we’ve cane with kids. I’d second Rhodes Old Town as worth a visit. You’re on the right side of the island for sandy beaches and you’ve got Lindos and Faliraki in striking distance, both worth a visit. If you like ancient ruins ancient Kamiros is worth a look. Butterfly Valley is a nice walk at this time of year but the butterflies have left now. Prasonisi is a lovely beach - lots of wind and kite surfing but tbh I think having a car for that trip would be a good thing.

Lots of stuff to do and the weather is fine this time of year.

DH and I had our first holiday together toRhodes. We’re in Pefkos, great snorkelling, very quiet. Lindos is lovely too.
