Found a lost purse

2 days ago I found a lost purse. I waited a couple of minutes in case anyone came back for it but nobody did. This was a on a very busy street (Oxford St in London in rush hour).
I looked in the purse & there were cards with the lady's name on. I have sent her messages on social media to say I've got her purse but had no response.
Now I know that bank cards etc can be cancelled & replaces relatively easily but there is also her National ID card from her home country. Just wondering what to do with it? Police won't take lost property

Hand it into the bank that issued her bank card if there is a nearby branch, they can contact her. My mum lost her purse once and someone did this, the bank rang to say they'd received her cards (which she had already cancelled) plus her purse.

Post on Lostbox on Facebook. They have a really good track record of reuniting lost items.

Agree hand to bank and ask them to contact her. I was once called by my mums bank in these circs to be told she had left her purse somewhere and how to collect it. They had contacted her bank right away.

I agree with going via the bank. I’m sure they can help. And the safest option too.

You could try this!

Could you contact the relevant embassy?

listsandbudgets · 18/10/2019 12:23

Yes go to the bank.

You could unintentionally be contacting the wrong person with the right name through social media.

I lost my purse a couple of years ago and the bank phoned the next day to say it had been handed in complete with cards, cash etc. I was very relieved. Never did find out who took it in but was so grateful

Fionacharming what a brilliant idea

JenniferM1989 · 18/10/2019 14:01

Send the woman a friend request then once she accepts, message her. She's more likely to see the message once you're friends

What is this new fangled "police won't take lost property" thing? Really?

GrandmaSharksDentures · 18/10/2019 14:33

Some great suggestions here, thank you all very much.

@Fionacharming - what a bloody brilliant idea!

I agree with pp. Hand her cards into her banks. There could be 100s of people with her name, who could claim the purse is theirs. Without photographic evidence eg passport or drivers licence. How can you prove one way or another. You’d hate it to go to the wrong person.
