Breastfeeding

As per name change I'm having an endoscopy under sedation tomorrow.

I wondered if anyone knew what medication they use for sedation and/ or if anyone has breastfed straight after.

I don’t know about breastfeeding after, but I suspect you wouldn’t be able to for a period of time. You would need to ask the doctor specifics about the drug and dose.

That said, you don’t need the sedation. I’ve had an endoscopy with just the local anaesthetic. I would not say it was particularly pleasant, but it was manageable. I needed to drive after so sedation wasn’t an option.

How old is your baby? If they are on solids, you can probably stretch the time between feeds longer than you think, particularly if you feed before going in.
