When should Christmas appear in the shops?

I work in retail & our Christmas stuff has been out since September. I noticed yesterday that a few of my colleagues are already wearing festive shirts! It’s not even Halloween yet! I love Christmas but this is all a little bit crazy & unfair on kids too, especially little ones who won’t understand.

November to give people a good few weeks to spread the cost.
I'm all done, mainly because I'm not buying anything.

DappledThings · 17/10/2019 15:09

When Advent starts. Which this year is 1 December.

UpToonGirl · 17/10/2019 15:10

I love Christmas but would prefer not to see anything in stores until November. Too early takes the magic away IMO.

amylou8 · 17/10/2019 15:11

NEVER! But for everyone that isn't quite a miserable as me....November.

amusedbush · 17/10/2019 15:29

1st November.

When should Christmas appear in the shops?
Bluerussian · 17/10/2019 15:29

On the 24th December and disappear on the evening of the 26th.
Just my opinion.

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 17/10/2019 15:33

Last week of November at the very earliest

KatherineJaneway · 17/10/2019 15:35

When I worked in retail Christmas was a big seller from September onwards.

OctoberLovers · 17/10/2019 15:37

1st December

popcorndiva · 17/10/2019 15:40

I do start buying bits and bobs in October like a new baubles. Nice wrapping if I see it.

Presents I try and get completed by December as I like to spend December enjoying everything not shopping

After bonfire night

After bonfire night.

Ravenrob · 17/10/2019 15:44

I like to start early so I'd say 1st November. Before Halloween is way too soon but our local shops seem to put Halloween and Christmas things out at the same time!

Paddingtonthebear · 17/10/2019 15:44

End of November at the earliest

MyDcAreMarvel · 17/10/2019 15:44

X post , great minds.

Fournearlyfive · 17/10/2019 15:45

End of October. A lot of people can't spend December shopping for and paying for everything in one go.

If people think it is too early to buy Christmas items then they don't have to. But it is handy for people to be able to pick up "bits" here and there if they fancy/need to.

Grasspigeons · 17/10/2019 15:46

After rememberance sunday.

MrsTerryPratchett · 17/10/2019 15:46

December 1. I love Christmas but the constant crap from September makes it less fun and more stressful.

Fournearlyfive · 17/10/2019 15:47

Also card shops are absolute mayhem in December so I don't go near. Buy any December Birthday/Christmas cards any time around now to avoid the busy periods.

TamarindCove · 17/10/2019 15:50

I’m an early shopper so September for me, once the kids are back at school.

Purpleartichoke · 17/10/2019 15:50

Depends on the shop. Craft stores, I like it to show up in July. You need time to craft so supplies need to be available early.

Other places, after Halloween works for me.

GrumpyHoonMain · 17/10/2019 15:51

I think end Sept/early October is about right. For many large families it can take a long time to prepare for Christmas. Christmas shopping (especially food) is impossible after mid-December when things start getting sold out and not being replaced - so you can’t really count that.
