Never ending housework? Just a moan

Three hours of cleaning and tidying later my house still looks like a shit pit! I bought myself a magazine to read when this hell is dealt with. At this rate I'll be reading it in a years time! I would probably jack it in for the day right now if I could find the damned TV remote (having a 5 minute break so that I don't throw a toddler tantrum over it, currently!)

Please tell me I'm not the only one who can't seem to get a handle on the chaos!

Do one room at a time - don’t leave until finished. Gives you a sense of achievement!! For now. Tomorrow is another day.

The remotes down the back of the sofa

CileyMayRhinovirus · 17/10/2019 13:55

It's not! That's the first place I looked! I fear it may be a lost cause because the toddler likes to use it as a phone in his games so will be somewhere weird.

Also checked the washing machine, the washing basket, down the sides of beds and cot, the fridge, the freezer, the microwave and the kitchen cupboards. In the process realised that absolutely everything needs a bloody wash or wipe down.

Oh and I checked the toilet and the bin and the recycling too. I'm sure it will turn up when the place is spotless but inevitably will be in the last damn place I get to

Try your boots

CileyMayRhinovirus · 17/10/2019 14:15

I found it! Down the back of the radiator, but it appears my toddler has somehow uninstalled all the channels and passwords. Think he might have factory reset it

Oh, I know the feeling.

Sometimes I feel like hiring a skip and throwing about 95% of our contents in it. That’d make it easier to tidy and clean Wink

The remote will probably turn up about half an hour after you’ve given it up for lost and ordered a new one.

EmilyStar · 17/10/2019 14:17

Cross posted, I see you found it! Down the back of the radiator is an ingenious hiding place!

CileyMayRhinovirus · 17/10/2019 14:19

@EmilyStar

Found it now got to reinstall the channels.

Think it might be skip time. Not sure we'd fill one bit I'd give it a good try

Me toooooo

It’s one thing after another here atm, illness, random work crisis, unexpected bedwetting, got roped into a PTA event, muddy clothes and boots to scrub every time DS so much as looks outdoors, I am drowning in it all and I can’t keep track of everything!

Windydaysuponus · 17/10/2019 14:24

It takes me 2 hours just to vacuum all our stairs...
Housework is therefore never my priority...
Grin

CileyMayRhinovirus · 17/10/2019 14:24

I don't know how other people do it! I was trying to get the house in order and routines sorted to see if I'm ready to go back to work and both have descended into anarchy.

Not just yet then. I'll keep on trying

Have a look at The Organised Mum Method also known as Team TOMM. There's a Facebook group, website, app and YouTube video. Really straight forward steps to follow to help sort out your house.
You would probably need to follow the boot camp if there's lots to do to get straight then it's just 45 minutes of jobs every day to keep on top of it.

CileyMayRhinovirus · 17/10/2019 15:15

I know I'm going to get a snarky "I thought you were meant to be sorting the house out today" when eldest comes home.

Then I'll make some reference about Groundhog Day she doesn't understand and try not to lose my shit when I tread on her Lego's.

Then I'll descend into daydreams about how life was when I only had one child and the place was sheeny and smelt like bleach. Which will mostly be a lie. But at least occasionally there was order. At least there were moments of sheen. She remembers a time when puzzles had all their pieces and were in the right boxes. Aka heaven.

Some day (maybe when the kids have all left home!)

Yep. It’s like shovelling snow in a snow storm.
Within an hour of deep cleaning it’s s tip again with my lot.

Lower standards.

My slow cooker has a curry in it, school run done, I’ve done 2 loads of washing,
Taken mother shopping, dishwasher emptied, that’s it today.
I’ve had a 2 hour sleep as I’m on a 12 hour night shift tonight.
I’m doing nothing else today.

Declutter

I'm a SAHM with two "easy" kids and I still resent the housework. My house is clean and tidy, and my mani dry is done and ironed, but I have to do a lot every day to keep it that way, it's a full time job. I don't know how parents that work, have kids with additional needs (or who aren't happy in front of Peppa Pig) do it. Oh, and my remote was in the oven of the Ikea kitchen Confused

I spend no more than an hour a day on housework. I have the odd Week of Action but decided after years of feeling like crap to devote no more of my time and worry to it. My house is okay, not perfect but reasonable.

CileyMayRhinovirus · 17/10/2019 17:29

I used to think that when people said that kids were lots of work they meant the kids themselves not the housework! Live and learn I guess
