Question about parental responsibility

Stupid question probably!

If the parents are unmarried, in the time between baby being born and going the the registry office to put the father on the birth certificate, is the mother the only person with PR?

Yep

OverthinkingThis · 17/10/2019 09:00

Mother is solely responsible for all medical decisions in hospital etc until the birth is registered. Worth bearing in mind if there are any problems immediately after birth.

If married, PR is acquired at birth. If unmarried then birth certificate or court order are the only way. Changed in circa. 2002, up until when being listed on a birth certificate did not convey PR to an unmarried father.

So short version, yep!

As long as he’s on the birth certificate he has pr they changed the law in the 90s I believe. If you get married after him going on the birth certificate ask for a form, as you can update the birth certificate after you get married
