I always do and have picked up issues. Do you check them?

I'm paperless. But do check through my banking apps at least once a day.

MerryDeath · 16/10/2019 19:24

never, it gives me the fear for some reason even though i am now comfortable financially. i leave it to DP who is quite keen to cash forecast and so on.

redchocolatebutton · 16/10/2019 19:26

regularly, almost daily.
conactless & small sums make it easy to
miss something amiss otherwise.

Sirzy · 16/10/2019 19:29

App helps massively. I did used to bury my head in the sand but now I know down to the penny what I have and check daily. Hardly surprisingly I am now much more stable financially because I am aware

ChocolateTea · 16/10/2019 19:30

I check through my online banking a couple of times a week yes. Being on a lowish income I have to if I'm honest.

DerbyshireOatcake · 16/10/2019 19:33

I check my apps daily.

ExpletiveDelighted · 16/10/2019 19:35

About once a week plus go through them properly once a month. I managed fine budgetting-wise in the old days when you only got a monthly paper statement every month but feel more concerned about fraud now. Only ever had one fraudulent transaction though and don't recall ever finding a mistake.

coconuttelegraph · 16/10/2019 19:40

I don't get paper statements but look at the full month's transactions every month online.

Every time I log onto my banking app I can see the last few items so keep an informal eye on things.

I have done this for decades and have never found a mistake but can't stop doing it just in case.

Minesril · 16/10/2019 19:41

Once or twice a week to check against my spreadsheet. I'm amazed that people don't!

Oblomov19 · 16/10/2019 19:50

Check app regularly. Have always reviewed statements. And credit card statements.
Never found anything untoward.

user1497207191 · 16/10/2019 19:52

I check because I have seen some pretty serious mistakes by banks, not so much these days, but certainly going back a while. Such as banks not applying cash/cheques paid in over the counter, keying in mistakes when entering cheques, etc. Now that most is done automatically, these kind of mistakes aren't as regular. I can definitely remember picking up these kinds of mistakes when preparing business year end accounts etc. One case I remember vividly was a working mens club who banked their cash/cheque takings every week, but in just one year, I found something like £40,000 of takings hadn't been credited, despite there being the paying in slips stamped and initialled by the bank - they credited the money pretty quickly when challenged with the evidence. I dread to think how much people lost who didn't check.

yellowallpaper · 16/10/2019 20:12

Not enough. I have multiple debt and credit cards so it's a bit of a chore. Was charged £10 for a subscription I didn't want but hadn't checked. Also had to chase of £80 from Microsoft for month so lucky I checked it

DappledThings · 16/10/2019 20:13

Check the app fairly regularly, never check the actual PDF statements. They email them to me and I have it set up to send them straight to junk mail.

happypotamus · 16/10/2019 20:15

I don't regularly check my online banking. It stresses me out too much to see how little money is there. When I am feeling brave I open the statement they post to me each month and check that the money was spent by DH rather than fraudsters.

photoposternamechanger · 16/10/2019 20:25

I check daily (accountant!). I also log every penny I spend in a spreadsheet and track anticipated spend for the next six months.

I track spend to an amount I feel comfortable with as a buffer and spend any excess on either premium bonds or put it into savings (which is essentially a house maintenance fund).

CathyorClaire · 16/10/2019 20:34

Check probably four to five times a week. I keep a set amount in the account and can see very quickly if everything looks OK. Never found anything amiss yet.

KnifeAngel · 16/10/2019 20:36

Yes online every day. I know people who have paid direct debits for years for things they had cancelled.

AngusThermopyle · 16/10/2019 20:38

Yep, every morning online.

SarahAndQuack · 16/10/2019 20:39

I do. A few months ago I found that the fish and chip shop SIL insisted we go to had charged me twice. I was already a bit watchful as I thought they seemed a bit funny.

I've had the odd thing over the years where there's something dodgy. Usually it's something you really need to watch for. But twice when I've reported it as a fraudulent charge, I found out later that the place was doing it deliberately. Once when it was a local corner shop and the owners were taken to court; once when the person I reported it to let slip there were lots of reports and there were proceedings going on.

It is worth doing.

FashionFoodLaughs · 16/10/2019 20:41

Yes I check the banking app pretty much every day. DH is absolutely clueless and it’s therefore me who has to be the nag about when we’re a bit skint near the end of the month!

Redcrayons · 16/10/2019 20:43

Yes on a daily basis.

I’ll consider myself rich when I don’t need to.

EskewedBeef · 16/10/2019 20:47

Most days online. I don't get paper statements. I've never found a mistake in the many, many years I've had a bank account, I just like to keep on top of things.

megletthesecond · 16/10/2019 20:51

Check on-line daily.

I stopped a fraudulent John Lewis purchase coming out of my account once. Never had any other dodgy transactions though 🤞.

Pokkadots · 16/10/2019 21:07

I do, everyday!! Both the bank and the credit card.
