So i went to the shops today and bought myself a lovely jumper. I have bought myself much clothes as im trying to lose weight and have been skint but i decided to treat myself and im feeling kinda low recently. After i bought jumper, i went to another store, i was buying heavy things so i put the bag on the hook. Bought heavy things, went back to car, put things in the boot, put trolley back and drove off. Went home and left everything in the boot. Felt happy that i had a successful shopping trip. Later went to car and realised there was no bag. Confused looked everywhere in car and still couldnt find it. Blush then stopped for a minute and realised i left it on the trolley. Went back to store to ask if anyone handed in but no one has. Sad im so annoyed with myself. I get a good enough sleep and yet im a total eejit. Ive wasted money and have no lovely jumper. I know this is a trivial thing and some people are going through some hard times but am i only person who has ever done this?

2 bottles of expensive champagne and some Clarins products left in the overhead locker of a plane when I got off in Guernsey. It was carrying on to Jersey but strangely no one had found them.
Yet more Clarins and a pair of new earrings left in the posh lounge at Manchester airport also never turned up.

Not long after I got my first flat as a teenager that I got having been homeless I was properly skint. I had a budget of £10 a week to pay for all my shopping including all toiletries and cleaning products etc which meant obviously to afford everything some stuff had to be bought on rotation and one week in farm foods I'd carefully spent my £10 packed my two bags and then somehow only realised once I walked the 40 minutes home (couldn't afford the bus) that I'd left with only one bag! I walked back to the shop but they had they hadn't seen it so the person after me must have lifted it with their stuff. I had to go without until I got paid again!

So not just you.

HelloAgainYou · 15/10/2019 23:11

Lots of these things happen so I just put it in the "fuck it bucket" and not give it a second thought. I always focus on all the great things that happen and figure I'm owed a few shit moments to balance out. I hope you get a new jumper soon xx

InkyFingersInkyFace · 15/10/2019 23:12

Did similar after swimming. Was so pleased with ferrying both then-small kids in and out of the pool, didn't realise til that night (if I can't see it, I'm totally out of sight out of mind) that is left all our swimming bags at the pool. Which I rang but our bags hadn't been turned in. I even went back the next day to look for myself.

Who TF runs off with three random strangers swimstuff.

I was gutted because it was ages before I could afford to replace our kit and the bags, though free, were special from somewhere I'd volunteered and they didn't make more.

Ginkypig · 15/10/2019 23:17

Oh and when I was 16 I had £100 in a purse (everything I had) and I very stupidly left it on the counter at the local newsagents, I ran back for it less than ten minutes of losing it but never got it back when I got home my mum was so angry with me she walloped me so hard I fell off the kitchen chair I was sitting in.

RavenLG · 15/10/2019 23:20

Loads! I once went to a cash point and walked away without taking the money. Worst part was someone was queuing behind me so they definitely took it. Scumbag, I hope karma got him.

Mookins14 · 15/10/2019 23:27

My friend loaded up her car, took the baby out of the buggy and strapped her into her car seat. Headed off home and sometime later realised she'd left the buggy on the footpath Shock never to be seen again.

I booked a weekend away, we couldn't go so I cancelled it. Money was really tight but I didnt actually cancel it Blush I just thought I did. I have never admitted that to my DH. Or anyone in real life.

I'm sorry about your jumper OP but I have definitely done the same and worse.

YetAgainNameChanged · 15/10/2019 23:40

Cash back at the supermarket self service tills doesn't work for me. Too easy to walk away without it.

CynthiaRothrock · 16/10/2019 00:02

Lost my purse containing £1000. I was moving house inbetween working split shifts and had problems with my bank. (Moons before internet banking) i had to ask for.my bond to be paid back in cash £500. I also asked work to pay me part in cash due to the issues with the bank. Another £500. Put it all in my purse so i could go to the agency and pay my new bond and months rent during my break. All good so far.
Only as i left work and set off i was bursting for the loo so i nipped in to a public one. Pulled out my purse to get 10p for the door, went inside did what i had to do, but as i stepped out my button popped open on my trousers, i stepped back in and put my purse on the baby change unit, sorted myself out and opened the door agin only to be greeted by a young girl on the verge of wetting herself struggling to find a 10p. So i held the door open for her and walked off.
I got across the road before i realised my purse was on the baby unit. I ran back and the money was gone! Purse was there but no money. It was in the middle of the town centre in a tourist town in the middle of the summer hols.
Thank fuck for my awesome boss, may she rest in peace. She bailed me out massivly. You're not alone op. We're all eejits sometimes (love the word eejit!!)

Djimino · 16/10/2019 00:50

OP, please ask again att he supermarket if anyone has handed it in. It still
Might turn up.
🤞🏻

I also took ds into the baby changing room in Sainsburys after he'd done a massive, messy poo. I took my ring off to stop it getting mucky, put it on the shelf and forgot to put it back on again. I never saw it again. I was gutted because it was a unique, specially made ring. No way can I get another.

msmith501 · 16/10/2019 04:45

@RavenLG I've done this too when withdrawing money from an ATM. I got 100 yards away, realises my mistake and returned to pick up my cash - only to see a bloke walking away from the machine tucking money into his pocket. I challenged him and he totally denied picking up my money and said that the machine must have sucked it back in. Anyway, the bank checked the ATM's camera and proved that yes, he had taken my money.

fantasmasgoria1 · 16/10/2019 06:24

I have done the same different item though. I was very bad a went back and bought another item!

GreigLaidlawsbarofsoap · 16/10/2019 15:32

Oh bless OP I can totally understand your frustration!

I once left my handbag in the kids seat of the supermarket trolley. I was sleep deprived as DS was tiny and suffering with a bad cold so I guess that's my excuse. So so lucky the lovely trolley chap spotted it quickly and handed it into the customer services desk. I almost wept with gratitude when they handed it back to me, intact, keys purse etc all safe.

I left my favourite jumper on holiday once. Had a very early return flight call, like 4am so had laid out my clothes ready to go when my alarm went off. Somehow managed to leave my warmest nicest cosiest snuggliest jumper behind and have never forgotten over 20 years later!

Wingingitsince2018 · 16/10/2019 15:49

When going on holiday about 10 years we realised none of us had packed books etc, so went to whsmiths at the airport and stocked up. I left the bag in the overhead locker. It was a long 2 weeks of small talk in a remote farmhouse in Spain!

I also once bought 2 left feet shoes for a wedding and didn't realise until the day. The only other shoes I had were (luckily not too grubby) converse. Was too late to return them afterwards!

Toddlersaresuchadelight · 16/10/2019 16:39

My sister did the same thing today with a lipstick! Only £9 but she left it at the checkout and was excited to wear it. Feeling a bit guilty as she'd only gone in to get things for me as I'm poorly atm.
Hope your jumper shows up, OP

PearlsBeforeWine · 16/10/2019 16:44

@Fannybawshasmerethanme

Yeldi, I got a text!

PearlsBeforeWine · 16/10/2019 16:46

I once left a brand new pair of vans on a bin in New York. Was gutted for years!

Sparklfairy · 16/10/2019 16:46

Oh that's really sad you didn't find it, I'm so sorry Sad happened to me a few years ago, bought a lovely top in one store, went into another store and left it there. Realised when I got home and rang where I thought I'd left it and it had been handed in, so I was able to pick it up.

Tbh I'm surprised someone would have just taken it. They'd have to be really lucky to be the same size as you and if they were planning on ebaying it, they amount they'd get wouldn't be worth the agg involved listing and posting imo. When did this happen? Can you ring the store again and ask, and if it's still not around maybe ask if there is CCTV of the trollies?

bit extreme but I would have to know

ALongHardWinter · 16/10/2019 18:16

I've had things taken out of my shopping trolley BEFORE I've even got to the checkout to pay for them! Totally bizarre. I was 100% certain that I'd put a packet of onion bhajis,a 4 pack of toilet rolls,a 6 pack of cheese topped baps and a packet of corned beef in my trolley, yet when I got home and unpacked, there was no sign of them, and they weren't on the receipt either. All I can assume is that someone swiped them while my back was turned, looking at stuff on the shelves. I can imagine someone walking past, seeing my toilet rolls/bhajis etc in my trolley and my attention elsewhere, and thinking 'Damn I forgot toilet rolls,oh that's handy,I'll just help myself out of this trolley'.

saltysally · 16/10/2019 18:39

I hate dishonest people. Sorry OP. I dropped £20 in the supermarket a few weeks ago. It was the only money I had and even though it was a matter of seconds before I retraced my steps it was gone. I hoped whoever picked it up needed it more than me. I still cried though as I couldn't shop for a few more days. No doubt the receiver saw me drop it.

Irisloulou · 16/10/2019 18:40

That’s rubbish, I hate doing things like that!

I haven’t done it for a While, but I did do a supermarket shop the other week, card was declined ( I’d not moved money across from my other account)
Hugely flustered, as it’s never never happened to me before.
I left.
As I drove away i remembered that I’d eaten some of the food😳

Poochnewbie · 16/10/2019 18:44

I threw out a whole bin bag full of Christmas presents that I still had to wrap during s garage clearout days before Christmas. I cried a lot. They were for my dd and my nieces.

cannycat20 · 16/10/2019 18:55

I've lost my car twice (once in Southampton, once in Bristol) as I went to the wrong car park. In my defence, in Southampton I asked the staff at the John Lewis if it was the only car park nearby and they said yes. So it wasn't entirely my fault....

I've always been absent minded. Alexa and diaries and my phone help but some things still slip through the net.

Walkon · 16/10/2019 19:03

My husband bought me a big bottle of issey miyake perfume one year. He put the bag down to pay for something in marks and Spencer and left it there.

I thought he was actually going to start crying when he told me. He said he was debating between the medium and large bottle and went for the large costing nearly €80. !
I went back to ask at customer service the next day, but no bugger handed it in ☹️
