What are your kids favourite dinners?

What are your kids favourite dinners?

I have three under 7s. They're a bit fussy and I'm getting bored with making the same things over and over again. I need inspiration! What do your kids like? What always goes down well? Also, any tips for fussy eaters?

I won't list what they won't eat, it would take far too long...….

Lasagne
Sausage and mash

All get thumbs up here

They both like a pasta I do that's pasta, bacon, broccoli, spinach, peppers, mushrooms and cheese too. X

  • Pasta bolognese.
  • Pasta with tomato sauce and roasted peppers. Add meatballs sometimes.
  • breaded chicken with rice and salad
  • breaded fish and chips and peas
  • roast chicken, fries and salad
  • chilli, rice, garlic bread
  • roast dinners
  • cheesy pasta
Verytubbycustard · 15/10/2019 17:37

Hmmm, fish curry might be an idea - fish seems to go down better than meat. And I'll look up the Brazilian stew too.

I'm finding dinners so difficult at the moment. 1 and 2 will eat sausages. 1 and 3 will eat broccoli. 2 has gone off pizza. 1 refuses anything too creamy. All will eat Bolognese, but try and change it in any way and none will eat it.

DS is nearly 14. His favourite meal is smoked salmon, caviar & blinis. He doesn't bloody get it very often (the expensive sod). Otherwise he likes

Quiche
Salmon
Chicken kievs
Pizza
Lasagne
Cheese & onion pie
Fish & chips
Beef stew / chicken stew & dumplings

He likes almost all veg.

PrincessSarene · 15/10/2019 17:43

Some of my 4yo favourites in addition to things mentioned already:

Smoked salmon bagels
Tomato soup
Salmon/tuna and couscous
Ribs and corn on the cob

BeanBag7 · 15/10/2019 17:44

I would keep offering them stuff even if they say they dont like it. If 2 of them like broccoli, give them all broccoli, you never know the third one might decide to try it some time.

Are they old enough to go down the "eat what you're given or just have plain toast" route. Assuming none of them have sensory processing issues or anything

PrincessSarene · 15/10/2019 17:44

( @iklboo That’s what we’ve got for dinner tonight, minus the caviar!)

iklboo · 15/10/2019 17:46

@PrincessSarene - I'll tell him to get his coat on Grin

BeanBag7 · 15/10/2019 17:46

To answer your original question my DD likes
Roast dinner or anything which resembles it e.g. toad in the hole
Beef casserole - popular because the meat is soft and easy to chew, compared to other cooked meat which can be chewy.
Chicken and veg pasta bake

beckyvardy · 15/10/2019 17:47

DD likes a full breakfast for tea which she has sometimes with her grandad

Gammon egg and chips

Pasta with cheese sauce and peppers and chicken

lyingwanker · 15/10/2019 17:48

Chilli con carne (mild though)
Chicken fajitas
Maggi garlic chicken papers

AtleastitsnotMonday · 15/10/2019 17:48

How about fishcakes? Easy to make your own but there are some good ones in the shops too.
Cajun chicken and veg skewers (I think mainly because they like the fact it’s on a stick!)
Falafel with pita and salad
Roasts gammon with a pineapple glaze, sweet potato wedges and veg
Baked salmon with ginger, garlic and spring onions.
Veggie chilli either with rice, wedges, or tortilla chips.
Pasta bake with peppers, bacon, chopped tomatoes, sweetcorn and red onion.

TamingToddler · 15/10/2019 17:48

Fish pie and Bolognese are firm favourites. He can not eat all day but if I serve fish pie he's guaranteed to eat the lot. Annoying because I despise fish Grin so it gets batch cooked and frozen.

Binforky · 15/10/2019 17:48

My three like:

Cottage pie
Curry made with Quorn
Lasagne
Bolognanaise
Jacket potato with tuna or beans
Chicken wraps that they put together themselves

There are other things but those are then faves

blibblibs · 15/10/2019 17:49

Mine are having their favourite tonight, homemade lentil soup for one and toad in the hole and broccoli for the other. That's because we're having chili prawn noddles which neither like. They will both eat
Curry
Special fried rice
Homemade chicken pie things
Roast
Chicken wraps
All day breakfast
Mince and tatties
Haggis
And that's actually all I can think of that neither of them moan about.
Christ, I hate tea time!

Puffthemagicdragongoestobed · 15/10/2019 17:49

Mine are fussy and we have the following on rotation:
Pasta Bolognese
Pizza
Chicken korma
Egg fried rice
Roast chicken
Baked potatoes with cheese and butter
Sausages and mash (although my eldest has started rejecting sausages)
Macaroni and cheese (also rejected by my eldest)
Chicken and veg/salad wraps
Tomato soup
Pancakes
Chinese takeout
Scrambled egg/ poached egg on toast
Omelette
Beans on toast

Verytubbycustard · 15/10/2019 17:50

Thanks for all your replies, I'm making notes.

I know I've got lazy with the variety of their diet, but when they're knackered from school/nursery and I'm knackered from work, it's so easy to stick to what you know will go down well. I like cooking, but it feels like such a waste when they won't eat it. Must make more effort!

DS2's absolute favourite is fish risotto. I tend to do it with one of the packs designed to go in a fish pie, then chuck in some peas and sweetcorn at the end.

DS1 loves vegetable crumble.

They also like:
Sweet potato dhal,
Tuna pasta,
Jackets,
Bolognese
Cottage pie

Bluerussian · 15/10/2019 18:04

Mine loved spag bol
sausages (but not mash though, as an adult, likes mash now)
jackets with a variety of fillings
chili con carne
cottage and shepherd's

BlackTrousers · 15/10/2019 18:15

Broccoli pasta
Pasta & Tom sauce or bolo
Sausages/peppers/sweet&sour sauce
Veg soup & sausages
Pork & apple stew
Pineapple chicken / rice
Scrambled eggs & veg

SpiderCharlotte · 15/10/2019 18:26

Bolognese
Chilli
Lasagne
Roast dinner
Macaroni cheese
Quiche
Veggie and lentil stew
Curries
Roast veg pie
Fish pie (topped with potato)

yetanothernane · 15/10/2019 18:42

3 year old -
Hotdogs
Meatballs and pasta with a tomoto sauce
Bolognaise and pasta
Roast dinner... Sometimes
Sausage and mash
Shepard's pie
Jacket potato with tuna/beans etc
Beans on toast

My Ds doesn't eat dairy so I tend to.do stuff that can easily be adjusted.
