Does anyone know how to stop car accident compensation calls

I was involved in a car accident in April. Not my fault but very minor , car repaired . No injuries.

Anyway I keep getting calls from many different companies asking me to claim compensation. I have tried asking not to call again, telling them they have the wrong number . I block the number after calls . Today I was in bed not well woken by a call. I am completely pissed off with these calls . Is there any way to stop them .

I couldn’t turn my phone off as child at school btw.

Call Blocker phone..... they cant be arsed to go through the system.

Or the automated phone calls cant get past

Starlight456 · 15/10/2019 13:55

my problem with that is that my school comes through no caller I’d would it allow those through?

Telephone Preference Service. It’s free and telemarketers are legally bound to not call if you are registered.

DailyFailAreTwats · 15/10/2019 14:02

Problem is that if they are calling from outside the UK the TPS doesn't work.

AmIThough · 15/10/2019 14:13

You mean you actually have had an accident that wasn't your fault?

Just ask them to remove you from their database.

Starlight456 · 15/10/2019 14:18

Thank you . My landline was registered not my mobile so will see if that helps.

Yes I was actually in an accident and I do ask them to remove them from data base . I believe they are getting my number off an insurance database of accidents however I get at least one call a day from different locations/ companies.

Just hang up without speaking. Expend no energy on them.

TroysMammy · 15/10/2019 14:24

When I had an accident I told my insurance company I didn't give my permission for my telephone number to be given to third parties and I would only deal with them. I never had any calls.

Starlight456 · 15/10/2019 14:27

I often don’t even answer them but the ring back .

I am also a childminder due Ofsted anytime now so could get a call from an unknown number from elsewhere in the country although often as soon as I pick up I can here it’s a call centre and hang up

There is no such database.

And they haven't been given your details by your insurance company or the police.

It's 100% coincidence that you've had a crash in the last year, and that's what they prey upon.

TPS is a start. Just keep hanging up, do NOT engage with them and they will go away.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 15/10/2019 14:30

Yes I was actually in an accident

You're making the error of assuming they know this. They robo-call in their thousands, and the sheer volume means occasionally one will be on target. You are nothing but a potential victim for them

They even now have fake recorded (real) voices that leave appropriate gaps for you to reply, so it sounds like you are having a conversation. If you "pass" the robo qualification you get transferred to a real person.

Nottobesoldseparately · 15/10/2019 14:31

Swear at them. Profusely.
They then mark you as an offensive caller and leave you alone.

I've never had an accident, never had cause to use my insurance but still they ring.

Mine come in swathes, presumably when someone buys a batch of info. It's old info too as they don't know my married name and they don't give a shit about TPS so just tell them to fuck off.

Starlight456 · 15/10/2019 14:36

I am a childminder not really ok when working 🤣

The reason I think they know is they know the date of the accident . Some may well be false .

Like I say it’s not one company as calls are from around the country .

Stopping one company call doesn’t stop another calling

OP posts:
TwattingDog · 15/10/2019 14:50

If you've confirmed the date to one, they'll sell the data to another scammer.

beckyvardy · 15/10/2019 14:54

I play along with them.

I always say I'm glad you think it wasn't my fault and give them a long convoluted story about what happened, ending with and I hadn't even finished that second bottle of wine!

I haven't had any for a while Now 🤷🏻‍♀️

BobbinThreadbare123 · 15/10/2019 15:01

I tell them I died in the accident. That soon stops the calls!

Spudlet · 15/10/2019 15:06

If you have an iPhone, add any important numbers (partner, school, whoever) to your favourite numbers. You can set calls from these numbers to come through when your phone is on do not disturb, but any other calls will go to answerphone.

NaomiFromMilkShake · 15/10/2019 15:11

Oh I am so glad you called, yes, yes, I came off a roundabout at great speed.

I am never going to that playground again.

Haven't heard from them in months. Grin

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 15/10/2019 16:29

Asking about compensation for several passengers is also good.

But conveniently forget to mention their canine status till much later.

SilverySurfer · 15/10/2019 16:56

I go into lengthy detail about my (non existent) accident. They get very excited and offer to represent me to which I say alas that's not possible as I'm dead. They swear and slam down the phone and touch wood, haven't called since.

user1471453601 · 15/10/2019 16:57

TPS works for me, even for calls from outside the UK. Once it's clear its a cold call, I tell them that if they are calling from the UK or are calling on behalf of a UK company they are breaking the law by calling me as I'm registered with TPS. I always give them the option to carry on with the call and give me the company's name, or to hang up, most non UK callers hang up. Some UK callers persist, and I report the company to TPS.

I don't get bothered much any more with these callers anymore

CigarsofthePharoahs · 15/10/2019 17:00

I also claim I'm dead. Sometimes I tell them I was decapitated in the accident and my head was never found. If my children are out I go into great detail. Usually they have hung up before I get to describe arterial spray.
I don't know if it stops them calling, but it makes me feel better.

Oldraver · 15/10/2019 17:03

I've just realised...are you talking landline or mobile ?

With the True Call phone you can programme in numbers you wnat to allow. Other numbers will hear a message asking them to say who they are, then you phone rings and announces the call. You can then either block or accept the call.

Genuine people like GP's Ofstead etc will announce themselves. Ive yet to have an unsolicited get through

happytoday73 · 15/10/2019 17:39

I've now had over 100 calls for my accident last year... I've tried it all... Telling them what number call they are trying for sympathy, singing to them (I'm really bad), blowing a whistle, asking politely to be removed, explaining no fault which progresses on to them trying to get me lie(I then lie & tell them I work for the fraud office... They then give me abuse)...
My favourite is telling them yes I was very injured.. Decapitated... Even then they carry on.
I despair

Starlight456 · 15/10/2019 18:14

Well I got another call today . I said I have registered with TPS ( although only 2 hours earlier) I would report them if they rang again. I got an apology and said wouldn’t call again not holding my breath though
