Does anyone know how to stop car accident compensation calls

I was involved in a car accident in April. Not my fault but very minor , car repaired . No injuries.

Anyway I keep getting calls from many different companies asking me to claim compensation. I have tried asking not to call again, telling them they have the wrong number . I block the number after calls . Today I was in bed not well woken by a call. I am completely pissed off with these calls . Is there any way to stop them .

I couldn’t turn my phone off as child at school btw.

Another one here that plays along that I'm dead, decapitated etc , not had one in a while so must work. My thinking is if I keep them on the line longer it wastes their time.

MrMeSeeks · 15/10/2019 18:16

Tps, soon as i tell them this they hang up and dont call me again.

MrMeSeeks · 15/10/2019 18:16

It can take a month for tps though

ListeningQuietly · 15/10/2019 18:18

"I Died, it really hurt"

it works

DioneTheDiabolist · 15/10/2019 18:22

I tell them to call back between 4.30 and 5.30, then let 12yo DS deal with them. He loves it, it's a free, convenient, calorie free treat for him.Grin

SpiderCharlotte · 15/10/2019 18:22

I had one today.

'So you've recently had an accident that wasn't your fault'..

'No'. Then said nothing at all. They kept saying 'hello'? and I said nothing. They hung up pretty quickly.

My favourite was when my friend got one while she was at my house. As soon as she realised who was calling she started singing 'Can't Smile Without You' by Barry Manilow. I thought she'd lost her mind, but they couldn't get off the phone quick enough.

bruffin · 15/10/2019 18:24

Tps doesn't stop them. Ive been registered for years and still get calls. I dont drive so couldnt have had an accident
My mobile tells me if its a spam or fraud call with Smart Call
There is also an ap called Hiyu which does the same

ExpletiveDelighted · 15/10/2019 18:28

I get the odd one. The last time I said "yes" and it clicked me straight through to someone else who asked me for all the details but then hung up when I said it happened in 1990. I block them every time and use TPS.

EngTech · 15/10/2019 18:29

I just ask them for more details as I have been involved in so many and it is difficult to keep track of them all.

While I am wasting their time, leaves someone else alone

Plus I enjoy stringing them along 👍👍😎

ilovetrees30 · 15/10/2019 18:38

Also mentioning GDPR is a good way to stop the calls. I've not had one in a while since I said under GDPR i did not give me permission to use my details. Also block the number!

cometothinkofit · 15/10/2019 18:43

"Hello, is that Mrs Thinkofit?"
"Who's calling please?"
"I'm Sophie from the insurance company and it's about your car accident."
"Oh yes................. which one?"
"Yes, it's about the accident that wasn't your fault."
"Oh, er... wasn't it? They told me it was."

AllFourOfThem · 15/10/2019 18:48

I tell them I died in the accident.

I’m going to copy this. Grin

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 15/10/2019 19:01

I dont drive so couldnt have had an accident

It makes no difference whether you drive a thousand miles every day or not a single one in your life!

The calls are just mass marketing and working on statistical probability that someone will bite. Same as ppi claims when it was for a company you don't bank with.

Don't give them credence for "misdialling" because you don't drive.

Curlysurprise · 15/10/2019 19:07

I ask them to tell me my name. They hang up.

Parky04 · 15/10/2019 19:10

It was probably the repairing garage that gave/sold them your details.

bruffin · 15/10/2019 19:21

I very much doubt it( i used to work for a garage) These are cold calls. I get them and dont drive.

MarkinTime · 15/10/2019 20:28

One of my son's received a call from one of these companies, literally at the same time his wife also received one.
They put their mobiles facing each other on the table and recorded the phones with my son's work mobile.
The result was hilarious as these two companies confused the Hell out of each other regarding a fictional accident, each still thinking they were talking to my son and his wife. 😂

trilbydoll · 15/10/2019 20:33

I usually say something along the lines of have I? And then they ask for more details and I say well you called me you're the expert. I had no idea until you told me. Sometimes it goes on for ages which makes me suspect they're not actually listening to me.

Kids thought it was hilarious when I asked one if she was a robot or real and it turned out she was real.

Hadalifeonce · 15/10/2019 20:35

I once kept them on the phone for 40 mins, gave them all kinds of false information, but asked a lot of questions they said they represented my insurance company, but couldn't tell me which one, eventually I gave the number of the local police station and gave them a name (not real) as the police were looking into the accident. Didn't hear from anyone for a couple of years.
Recently, I have had a couple, but just asked if their mother knows they try to scam people for a living. Haven't heard anything for quite a while.

PaulAnkaDog · 15/10/2019 20:40

Ask to be put on their DNC list and ask to speak to the supervisor to do so.

carlywurly · 15/10/2019 21:04

I just immediately hang up and block them.

Legislation is going to take effect next year that should stop these specific calls because it will no longer be worth their while. But they’ll move onto the next thing and they’ll be ringing five times a day asking you if you want to claim for flight delays or privacy breaches on your iPhone or whatever.

jj7141 · 15/10/2019 21:24

I say that I have already claimed. They hang up pretty quick then!
