How often do you take your 1-2 year old to soft play?

Just wondered how much is too much or how little 😄
Thanks

Once every couple of month. Soft play is my idea of hell

UpToonGirl · 15/10/2019 10:17

I usually take mine (2.5) about once a week/fortnight. Only on a weekday morning when it's quiet.

I haven't been on a weekend or holiday for a few years though, went once with the older two during the Easter holidays and nearly had a breakdown by the time I came out! Said I wouldn't set foot in one again unless I was fairly certain it would be quiet(ish)!

As little as possible- unless we are mystery shopping and at least get the food for free. I hate it, it's what my hell will be if I end up there. Never ending soft play and reruns of peppa pig for eternity.

ohmysoul · 15/10/2019 10:22

As little as possible. I hate it. She's been 3 or 4 times in her life and she's almost 2.

SarahAndQuack · 15/10/2019 10:24

Never.

She's been once with me and once with her mum.

Dull as fuck, filthy, and the time we went, someone was allowing their child to wee all over everything.

She's never clamoured to go back, either. I don't know when soft play became a 'thing,' but I'd say if you hate it, don't bother!

EssentialHummus · 15/10/2019 10:33

Mine's just two. Er... once last December because we were in Holland in the pissing rain and that was the best option, once last weekend for a birthday party. I really can't stand soft play and I don't think DD is mad for it either. Having said that, a friend has a "typical boy" in her words and is in hers at least once a week. I think from 2yo it has more mileage anyway, since they can do more there by themselves.

Fuma · 15/10/2019 10:35

It's been a long time since mine were little but when they were we went as infrequently as possible. Nasty overpriced food, studiously hands off parenting, lacklustre staff and the hidden horrors of the ball pool ... urgh. I'd generally cave around four weeks into winter and go once or twice after that when I'd genuinely run out of other ideas but I hated everyone in the world by the time we left.

SarahAndQuack · 15/10/2019 10:36

Oh, sorry, if ages are relevant DD's 2.5.

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 15/10/2019 10:38

Quite often but it's mostly driven by dc1 who is 4 and would happily move in. We're going to tomorrow and I'm already dreading it mostly because 16 month dd wants to play on the big stuff with her brother and his friends which means I have to play on the big stuff too.

Our local one does really good food though. Their lemon curd muffins are amazing.

beckyvardy · 15/10/2019 10:44

Once a month usually but if it's half term we go maybe twice a week as they have internet and I work from home so I just work from the soft play

FriedasCarLoad · 15/10/2019 10:47

Never yet. My toddler doesn’t yet know they exist. Long may that continue!

tekashi · 15/10/2019 10:49

I've been taking my 3yo ds twice a week since he was around 1yo, we have 4 nearby and another one for babies/younger toddlers which we stopped going to before he was 2yo.
I think I'm in the minority as I like going to soft play, I'm happy to play with him but it's so lovely when he makes friends to play with.

user1474894224 · 15/10/2019 10:49

When. My eldest 2 were young we used to go once a week in winter - we had passes and met friends there. Then in summer we went less. With baby 3 I used to go with one friend we would walk (it was a long way) kids would buggy, scoot or ride a bike. Not stay so long there and come home. We did it every other week.....

yellowallpaper · 15/10/2019 11:00

Every couple of weeks because they love it. Not my favourite so I go with a friend and have coffee and cake. It's a nice well run soft play

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 15/10/2019 11:12

tekashi me too! I love softplay- a godsend when you have an active baby/toddler who hated all singing groups and would never sit still.
And coffee and a cake afterwards...whats not to like.

Mumof21989 · 15/10/2019 11:35

i used to take my first when she was around a year. but she started getting car sick and also is sick if she drinks too fast. put me off taking her incase it happened in a sweaty hot ballpit lol.

SlimGin · 15/10/2019 11:49

I've taken my 1 y/o twice this month so far and will probably take her next week too. There's a really good one near me with a decent sized under 3's section and it's pretty clean. My DD needs wearing out and loves climbing up/down things. I know the childminder takes her to another at least once a week too.

seafoll · 15/10/2019 11:53

We probably go about once every couple of months to places that are 'official' soft play, DD is 16 months. But she does Gymboree every week, which has soft play blocks but is more structured. And we've been to some museums which have soft play areas. I enjoy going with her and I'd be happy to take her more often, but her schedule is quite busy with other classes, and nap times still take up a lot of the afternoon. By the time she gets up there's not that much time to get there and back home in time for dinner.

user1498549192 · 15/10/2019 11:55

Never; he absolutely hates it (luckily for me!)
