I think I am losing the plot so thought I'd find out what wise women thought.
In the last week, only the last week, my 8 year old has been physically attacked by two of his best friends at school. Nothing too serious yet, but I am dumbfounded as is he and he is really upset. He has also just been invited to one of their birthday parties.
Yesterday he said he got the invitation in the morning, normal day until afternoon, they fell out over football. One of them is a girl, and the girl grabbed ds' collar and the boy said "are you holding him? ok" and then kicked dc really hard in the shins. Last Thursday he got small stones thrown at him by the same boy and when he went over to another group to get away the other group shook their head at the other boy.
It is such a change I am dumbfounded. They have been friends for years, not attached at hip but often playing together. The girl has changed over the years and DS has been sad about that from time to time as he felt he lost his BFF but they still get on and want to play together a fair amount. Both the girl and the boy can be mean to other kids at times. I talk a lot to ds about not joining in or being mean and telling them to knock it off.
