Do you spring out of bed or keep hitting snooze?

The second the alarm goes off I leap out of bed like a Jack-in-a-box.
I'm up instantly.
But I did go through a brief phase of '5 more minutes'.
I much prefer the heart attack inducing leaping.
Whats your style to start the day?

Instant. It’s not pleasant, especially when it’s cold and dark. But it doesn’t get any better for procrastinating and making yourself late, so may as well rip the plaster off.

managedmis · 15/10/2019 20:48

Like a springer spaniel

DramaAlpaca · 15/10/2019 20:51

I have a daylight simulator lamp which helps wake me up gently, but I still have to hit the snooze button a few times before I can get out of bed. I'm just not a morning person.

Rafiple · 15/10/2019 20:52

Snoozer, sometimes just once or twice, other times mutilple times before getti g up!

bananacakerox · 15/10/2019 20:52

Snoozer for about 10 mins. I have to sit up for a few mins to get myself used to being awake. I have a kettle by my bed so have hot tea within 5 mins which gets me going.

I'm really not a morning person so the point that I never arrange any work meetings earlier than 10am.

I'm much better late afternoon / early eve, my body clock is that way.

AgeLikeWine · 15/10/2019 20:54

I’m not a morning person at all, so I set my alarm for the last possible minute, so I have no choice but to get up almost immediately.

If I started pressing snooze, I would have no chance of getting to work on time. Bad plan.

OldAndWornOut · 15/10/2019 20:56

I love the kettle by the bed idea.
The thought of a cuppa is what spurs me on.

lassofthenorth · 15/10/2019 20:59

Snoozer. Loving the lazy judgement though

Same here - snoozer but I build that snooze time into my alarm which goes off at 5:05, if I tap my snooze thing three times I get 30 minutes - I probably do that twice a week.

PumpkinKing · 15/10/2019 21:00

I'm a snoozer. And I'm getting worse. I set my alarm for 7am but I don't have it loud because 13 month old DD is in our room and I don't want to wake her. So I don't think it's loud enough to wake me properly anymore. I turn it off still half asleep and immediately fall back to sleep. DS sometimes comes in at 7.30 when he gets up to wake me up! Blush DD used to be up at 6am everyday and she was my personal alarm clock. Now she seems to have inherited my love for a lie in. I wish I was a jump up and go kinda person.

Whatsyournameagain · 15/10/2019 21:00

Wouldn’t exactly say I spring out of bed, but I do get up straight away. I dislike being woken up by alarms so have managed to train myself to wake up naturally at 7. DH is a ‘hit the snooze button at least 3 times before getting up’ person, which infuriates me when I’m off work!

VisionQuest · 15/10/2019 21:03

100% snoozer. I'll often set my alarm 45 mins before I have to get up for maximum enjoyment.

I HATE the mornings, i could cry when I have to get up. I also don't want to speak to my husband for the first 15-20 mins.

I would have to disagree that I'm lazy though! My days are extremely busy and I'm often on the go for 12-14 hrs straight.

SomeKindOfMonster · 15/10/2019 21:10

Instantly. But only because otherwise I'd pee myself. I don't function at all though.

ISawyouinTescoyesterday · 15/10/2019 21:15

I'd love to jump out of bed but I'm not good in the mornings. This week has particularly been awful and sleeping most mornings.

ShinyGiratina · 15/10/2019 21:27

I'd much rather set the alarm for when I need it, than waste hours of sleep per week being interupted by snooze breaking my sleep up. Snoozing makes me feel far worse. DH is a snoozer and it's a really annoying habit as once his alarm has gone off, I'm bloody awake whether I like it or not.

I love my Lumie light for dark mornings, that's a good, gentle way to wake up. I don't exactly spring, more creak. I've recently established a habit of creaking off downstairs and doing some gentle Yoga with Adrienne to get moving for the day. Unfortunately DH is not a lumie fan and he'd rather wallow in the dark ruining his sleep for half an hour before finally dredging himself up at the point where it becomes essential.

I find when the alarm goes off in my sleep cycle makes a major difference. I can be better off setting it a bit earlier in a light phase, than an extra 15 minutes and hitting a groggy phase. If DH is up early, there are certain time slots I don't mind as I can get a sleep cycle in again, and the worst slot is when he screws up the deep sleep of my last cycle thus waking me up earlier than I need, in a groggy state from deep sleep which doesn't shift easily, and not enough time to be worth going back to sleep to get over it.

Stravapalava · 15/10/2019 21:30

I've always been one of those people who jumps out of bed, fresh as a daisy, ready to face the day! However, i do like to go to bed early. I'd be in bed now if the washing machine had finished!

Iwantacookie · 15/10/2019 21:31

I will hit snooze once but I spend those 10 mins before it goes off again just waking up. When it goes off again I'm up.

Tink1990 · 15/10/2019 21:34

Deffo a snoozer. What did people do before alarm clocks? Serious question, if anyone knows the answer I woud be eternally grateful!

Outsomnia · 15/10/2019 21:34

Just me, but instant wake up with alarm, then sit up for a minute, and out of the bed.

Anything else just prolongs the agony!

You get used to it I think.

Lozz22 · 15/10/2019 21:40

Snooze as long as possible and then have to do a mad dash out the door with no breakfast or drink. I grab a coffee as soon as I start my first call and breakfast I can take or leave anyway. There are 2 times a year I'm up with the lark and that is going on holiday and Christmas Day

SunshineAngel · 15/10/2019 21:45

I've never pressed snooze in my life (apart from on the alarm reminding me to take my pill, haha).

My partner is the opposite, and has to factor in an extra half hour so he can snooze a few times before he gets up.

I've never understood that!

SunshineAngel · 15/10/2019 21:46

@Tink1990 Google "knocker upper" :).

HappySonHappyMum · 15/10/2019 21:46

I generally wake myself up about 2 minutes before my alarm goes off so I can check it's nearly time for me to get up Grin Then I jump straight out of bed. I am a morning person. My alarm is always set to go off before my DHs who is a night owl. His alarm is so loud it is called a sonic bomb and he still doesn't hear it. I set my alarm to go off before his because otherwise his scares me up and it's jarring. It takes him a long time to get up and I usually have to wake him myself anyway as the alarm never works. He is the worst sleeper in the house my kids are better than him at getting up!

dudsville · 15/10/2019 21:47

So, is it like this? Some wake up raring to go, some wake up, not fully conscious but body moving, and some WAIT TO FEEL AWAKE??? That sounds amazing. Never occurred to me that that's what the snoozers were doing!

Tink1990 · 15/10/2019 21:56

@46SunshineAngel thank you thank you thank you! Genuinely always wondered. One thing though, who woke the 'knocker upper'! Its never endinggggg!! Grin

cometothinkofit · 15/10/2019 21:59

Tink The knocker-upper's knocker-upper of course Smile
