Ghosts!?!?!

So....on holiday and we’re staying at a nice rental. Walk in a spooky vibes. While we were there we constantly were hearing steps bangs seeing shadows walk past..lights turning on when my kids sleep and even laptops and keys moved... we left after the lights turned on In the kids room and something smelled like death..my husband heard steps and we saw a shadow walk across the window but were on the second story so it couldn’t have been a person.
We grabbed the kids and drove to my mums since it was close.

Anything creepy like this ever happen to you? Believe in ghosts?

Oh yeah the night before my husband had a dream he murdered somebody in that house? Weirddddddd

I’m not a believer.....but what was that?

Not a ghost but left Wales to head for Hastings and was leaving with my 4 year old. I heard an actual whispering voice stating.....you're gonna crash.....now for no other reason other than not wanting to face the journey there and back in a day with a 4 year old, at the last minute I left her at home. Made it to Hastings and left for home an hour later and heard the voice again. I crashed on the motorway doing 70. Oddly I also knew I would be fine. The back seat however was ripped out and if my daughter had been there she wouldn't have survived. Odd.

Total non believers.
Moved into our 1830s lovely cottage end of Nov '13. In first month lights would turn on, go upstairs taps to find taps on, the one that freaked me the most was we would often go down in the morning to find pantry cupboards (which fastened properly) wide open, some Christmas decorations found dropped off tree some mornings but not directly underneath...
One morning having a lie in we heard walking around downstairs and pans clanking and noise like when you stir then yap spoon noisily on side of pan. Told each other it was obvs coming from next door (even though it sounded much closer) only to find out they were on holiday.
The one we couldn't explain away and which was a massive mental turning point for us was we were sat chatting and watching tele one eve and at the other side of the room an ornament flew off a high up shelf like it had been swiped off and landed in front of us on the floor. Lots of other lighter things on shelf unaffected, shelf was steady, ornament undamaged, and it flew at a completely unnatural angle compared to just falling off. We both just went silent and stared at each other like errrmmmm
I'd have thought if anything like all this ever happened to me I'd have run a mile but for some reason nothing felt sinister or unsafe.
A couple of days later feeling like a raving loon I stood at the top of the stairs in my own in the house and said I know you are here but we're here too now and we don't mean any harm and you can stay too but we'd appreciate if you left things alone now please. I shit you not from that point everything stopped - no more open cupboards, dodgy lights and taps etc all became "fixed", and from no much all at once nothing else to report in nearly 6 years. I think that in itself I found the strangest of all.

I’m glad you felt safe! I didn’t feel safe. And I called it out as we’ll. I said if you are here and want help or want ya gone let us know and don’t hurt us. And then all the weird stuff happened!

Update on the situation:

I searched all the rental reviews and MULTIPLE people said the same things. One person even said they saw blood and bloody finger prints just a few weeks prior to our stay. There is a room that is dead bolted bad my mum showed the house before and said that room isn’t suppose to be there. All so creepy. We ended up calling the authorities as we found out there was a murder last month...... just down the street the body was found. My goodness!!!!!

Whenever there's a 'woo' thread on this site hordes of mumsnetters come forward to say there's no such thing as ghosts and I always wonder how they can be so certain that they've never seen an apparition?

Visitors to my home sometimes remark on the two old gentlemen sitting on a wall outside a house just along from mine, one of whom can be seen feeding pigeons and some of the birds are so tame they take food from his mouth.

Or they may comment on the tall slim elderly Scottish lady walking her little Yorkie who bids 'good day' in her distinctive Highland brogue to everyone she passes.

All three of these lovely people have been dead for nigh on 10 years yet they're still observed by many.

@worraliberty definitely need some tea after reading reviews that I should have read before renting for the holiday.
