Adrian Mole said that the only thing worse than someone telling you their problems is someone telling you their dreams but......after a long period of being off work with work induced stress/break down, I am about to return to the job. Only I am having awful anxiety dreams, all work related. is my unconscious trying to tell me something?

Well, yes, but it's telling you you're anxious about returning to work, which anyone would be under the circumstances. It doesn't necessarily mean it'll be bad, or that it's the wrong thing to do. Pandora would have a more sophisticated take on it, I imagine..

It was actually his mother, and what she said was that there was only one thing listening to other people's dreams, and that was listening to other people's problems.

Feeling anxious is totally understandable, and would happen to anyone in your position.

Have you done the job for a long time?

RainbowMum11 · 15/10/2019 01:46

Have you had any therapy at all that can help you with your return to work?
Do you have a gradual plan in place?

Esmeralda67 · 15/10/2019 11:24

I stand corrected BadLad! Pauline Mole was far more astute. I have had therapy, and medication and a phased plan. The underlying problem is I made a serious error at work and despite nearly 30 years of no problems I was immediately placed on a misconduct investigation and threatened with dismissal. I just can't come to terms with it. I know I have to go back but I feel so angry and resentful. My manager seems to want to pretend it never happened now that it is over. I can think of nothing else.

Your concious is telling you that you're anxious about it. Of course you are.

I love Adrian Mole.

SuperMeerkat · 15/10/2019 13:28

So is it fully resolved or are you on some sort of management plan? It’s understandable to be nervous.

Inthemoment38 · 15/10/2019 13:29

I think you are just understandably nervous OP. Just go back and do your best and be kind to yourself.
Here's a little offering from the pen of Adrian that for some reason I've always remembered:

The tap drips and keeps me awake
In the morning there will be a lake
For the want of a washer the carpet will spoil
For the want of another my father will toil
My father could snuff it while he is at work
Dad, fit a washer don't be a berk
