"Hazard of being" or "hazards of being"

Someone on twitter corrected someone on their spelling and stated something along the lines of "sorry, hazards of being an author". I'm not great at linguistics (in fact I'm dyslexic), but it doesn't sound right. I thought it would be "hazard of being" rather than hazards. Or doesn't it matter?

I probably should add, I know the person personally, so that's why I took note. Just it's bugging me and google isn't helping.

i have thought it was short for "one of the hazards " ...

twitter is hardly grammar central, even if I do delete my tweets with typos in and repost. Not a prolific tweeter mind you!

I imagine it’s short for ‘one of the hazards of being an author’, implying that there are many hazards (plural).

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 14/10/2019 19:34

and talking of typos !! I'd

Unshriven · 14/10/2019 19:35

It's just shorthand. The one of the ...hazards of being an author bit is implied.

eurochick · 14/10/2019 19:35

It depends on whether they are referring to several hazards or one. Either could be correct.

Bucatini · 14/10/2019 19:39

I agree - the phrase is "one of the hazards of being..." and the person has shortened it.

Someonesayroadtrip · 14/10/2019 19:52

Fair enough. It sounded strange in my brain. Saying that, lots of things sound very odd in my brain 😜
