I heard this today, the beginning sounds like Miss Chatelaine by KD Lang, but the vocals sound like another song from the '80's(?). I'm sure it was a female singer too.

The slidey bits are pedal steel - very important in Americana music. Everyone like Ryan Adams, Waylon Jennings etc use it. There's a track considered by many to be an essential pedal steel repertoire piece from the grateful dead here that uses an almost identical chord/interval as the opening of silver lining, which I'm sure they had in mind:

I woke up thinking of this thread today .

I went down a Sheryl Cole rabbit hole last night, as a lot of her songs have a slidey guitar bit. 'My Favourite Mistake' is now stuck in my head.

Then I just got confused.

Yep, I listened to Favourite Mistake and Anything But Down last night before deciding it wasn't Sheryl Raahh. Also the Lisa Loeb track mentioned up thread but I still can't get it

I agree mungo, there's definitely something Suzanne Vega-ish about the vocals but there's still another song it reminds me of dancing on the edge of my brain, it's so annoying!

Don't give up on me yet! I am making a bit of progress, pretty sure the singers pic is on the red cover I mentioned and I've got hair (shortish, dirty blonde, wavy bob) just waiting for the face or name to come back to me Am getting a bit worried I'm going to end up hating the First Aid Kit track though the amount of times I've listened to it, which is a shame as it's v good
