What are my neighbours called? Aargh!

I have lovely neighbours, couple of doors down.
We chat, have walked through the park, talked about issues with grandchildren etc.
They will soon be doing me a huge favour, feeding cat and watering plants, taking in parcels etc, which involves me leaving written instructions?
I need to leave a card and wine, I cannot omit their names!

I cannot remember their names, I just cannot!
Short of mugging the postwoman, what can I do?

Ask another neighbour??
Or just pick a name and use it. They will almost certainly be too polite to correct you. My mum called her next door neighbour Lesley for about 7 years. Turned out her name was Diane.

Angie and Roy

AudacityOfHope · 13/10/2019 11:43

You don't have to write their names, just a lovely message is fine. And do your spywork before Christmas card time 😆

ScreamingValenta · 13/10/2019 11:44
  • Address the card - "To all at number 6 ..." ?
  • Ask their immediate NDNs if they know their name?
  • Be honest and say "This is going to sound silly, but although we chat all the time, I don't know your names."
ScreamingValenta · 13/10/2019 11:45

... or use 'Dr's Prescription' handwriting and write the names as an indecipherable squiggle.

Slappadabass · 13/10/2019 11:48

Ask another neighbour, or ask how to spell their names you might look a bit daft if they are called Bob and Wendy but it will do the trick!
I always forget names, it's so awkward when it gets to the stage when it's too rude to ask, I always kick myself and wish id asked earlier!

IamEarthymama · 13/10/2019 11:55

I am dying as they always say, oh earthymama, lovely to see you!
I am thinking of recruiting other Lovely Neighbours, who also don't know

They could say , Angie and Rob said they know you! It is Bob and Wendy isn't it?

I think you can use 192.com to look up addresses and it might show names, but you may have to pay for some information, I've never looked that far into it

spiderlight · 13/10/2019 12:02

Janet and Roy

userabcname · 13/10/2019 14:06

Ask to add them on Facebook..? Will they likely have that? And then say "ooh could you just spell out your name as I'm terrible at spelling" as you search? Or if you know their surname then you may be able to find them.

SavageBeauty73 · 13/10/2019 15:10

I need this!

SavageBeauty73 · 13/10/2019 15:11

Oops didn't attach my picture

Nixen · 13/10/2019 15:21

My aunt has a trick

‘Sorry what your name again?’ And when they look a bit offended and say ‘Bob and Janet’ you say ‘oh no silly I meant your SURNAME!’ 😊

RolyRolyRolyPoly · 13/10/2019 15:27

Daddy Pig and Mummy Pig.

TSSDNCOP · 13/10/2019 15:45

Steve and Judy for sure.

itsgettingweird · 13/10/2019 15:47

Nixen that is genius and I'll be saving that up for the future!

AFairlyHardAvocado · 13/10/2019 16:01

Omg @Nixen

My aunt has a trick ‘Sorry what your name again?’ And when they look a bit offended and say ‘Bob and Janet’ you say ‘oh no silly I meant your SURNAME!’

That is fucking genius!

whiskersonkittenss · 13/10/2019 16:02

I use the surname trick too!

ScreamingValenta · 13/10/2019 16:03

The surname trick is fine unless the reply is "Smith" Grin

DobbyTheHouseElk · 13/10/2019 16:04

Start the letter

Hello,

The cat food is in the cupboard......

itreallyisanicefence · 13/10/2019 16:04

I think asking the postman is a great idea! Why not?

FriedasCarLoad · 13/10/2019 16:10

My aunt has a trick ‘Sorry what your name again?’ And when they look a bit offended and say ‘Bob and Janet’ you say ‘oh no silly I meant your SURNAME!’

Please don’t do this. It’s so easy to see through this trick and very cringey.

JaneJeffer · 13/10/2019 16:11

Just put "to my wonderful neighbours"

FriedasCarLoad · 13/10/2019 16:12

Do you have their number?

Maybe ask them to put it into your phone and hope they type their name.

Failing that, it’s the postman or a neighbour.

And if that doesn’t work, you’ll just have to be brave and ask.

But a PP is right that you can just start the note with ‘Hello, thank you...’

Saucery · 13/10/2019 16:14

Send it from your cat. Obviously a cat isn’t going to know or care what their names are so it will look perfectly legit.
