Cleaners - pay by the hour, or set price?

I’ve been getting some quotes for cleaners to come to our house for a fortnightly clean. Most are replying with their hourly rates but one cleaner has replied to ask if they can come and see the house and then they will give me a set price.

I’m a bit wary of this because one day they could do two hours and the next do one hour or 1.5?

Next question is - if you are in the north of England, how much is your cleaner’s hourly rate?

I pay a set price. I see no point in paying my cleaner by the hour. I can see what she's done and as long as the job gets done and gets done properly, I'm happy. Some weeks I think she does it quicker than others but the point is she does it. I think in a job like cleaning, paying by the hour penalises efficiency

Paying by the hour seems to cause so much tension with people getting upset because cleaner leaves half an hour early. I just can't be bothered with it to be honest

We pay a set price. £50 per week for a 5 bed property. Sometimes it takes her 2.5hrs, others times 3 but it balances out. My previous cleaner charged by the hour. We paid for 3 hours but not once do I believe they actually did it, hence why no longer our cleaner!

We're north of England (Yorkshire) too.
