Stupid Question re Cover Letter

I'm embarrassed to even be asking this but should a cover letter be written as an email or sent as a separate letter attached to a general email? Blush

If you are emailing, treat the email as the covering letter. Keep it formal. If you have a joke email address, change it for something more sensible.
