Wasn't sure where to post this but hopefully someone might have some useful info. DH fractured his skull nearly six months ago. This involved having immediate surgery which left him with some restricted peripheral loss of vision on the left side. This has markedly improved and the improvement has been noted in a letter. His driving licence was revoked. We were told he could re apply two months before the six months so filled in the relevant forms etc. Meanwhile he'd seen the neurosurgeon who'd operated on him. He was delighted with his progress and said his report to the DVLA would be very favourable. However we had a letter from the DVLA telling us to go to Spec Savers and then the report would be sent to them. We went last Monday and received the letter today. I don't think they have had the surgeons report yet but suppose they are most likely to go by the field test from Spec Savers.
Today we received a letter saying he had failed the field test so could not drive but we could get a private report and submit that. He's devastated which is understandable. Just wondered if anyone else had been through this and were successful with a private report on their field of vision. His sight is 6/9 in each eye with glasses which I believe is OK for driving. Its just the quarter loss of the peripheral vision which is the problem .
It would be great to hear some positive stories.
