Help remembering a film title please

I watched a film a few years ago and loved it, watched it a couple more times and now I can’t recall the title.
The lead actress was a very strong character with big eyes, I think her name began with R something like Ramona or a Spanish name.
In the film she is obsessed with a house and is from a poor family and goes on to be a rich author and buy the house. She gets married and her husband goes off to war.
Anybody know this film please

In a mis-remembered plot, Noah building Allie her dream house after returning from the war, they were separated as she was from a different social class isn't that dissimilar for you to post just deriding a suggestion without offering any alternative.

oh, and of course, Allie is the 'author' of the notebook that Noah reads from...

It's not the notebook but thanks anyway.

Can you remember any of the actors and actresses in it?

Definitely English, as I say the lead actress had huge eyes and dark hair and her name sounded foreign, something like Romana?
The house she fell in love with was called Paradise or something similar and was run down.
Her husband came back from war and I think he lost both legs and eventually hangs himself through depression.

Could it be Angel?with Romola Garai?

Oh my God, I had no idea they'd made a film of Angel (a book I absolutely adore ) I shall instantly forget about it, as I don't like Romola Garai and (from what I read read on Wikipedia) it sounds as though they didn't adapt the book very well either!
