Early scan dates and slow development

Hi everyone

I am really worried and would love to hear if anyone had went through anything similar positive or negative.

I went for an early scan when I knoe I was around 6 weeks, I used ovulation sticks so could have been between around 5w5d and 6w3d. All they could see was the sac and a yolk sac and told me to come back in two weeks and 2 days. I have read you must be over 5.5 weeks to see a yolk sac so when I went back I was hoping to see a baby between 7-8.5 weeks, from my dates I would have been around 8w3d. The sonograoher found a heartbeat but baby only measuring 6w3d she wouldn't comment on the heart rate but it was very clear on the screen.

So basically I'm 2 weeks behind and also baby only developed about a week in 2weeks and 3 days. I am assuming something is wrong and I will miss carry. I am going to go back in two weeks for a scan even if I have to pay private. The sonograoher said all she was looking for was the heartbeat and wasn't concerned about dates - she was useless imo.

Any stories would be really appreciated going out of my head as my first and only other pregnancy ended in a mmc finding out at the 12 week scan baby stopped developing at 8w3d.

Thanks
Xxxxx

Mines an ivf baby so no doubt on dates. At my 7 week scan the baby measured a few days behind. Consultant said it can't be accurate at that stage and don't worry, baby did catch up later.

The heartbeat is the important thing

@prayingandhoping

Congratulations! I know I think if it wasn't a full two weeks or it developed the right amount I would be more positive but it just seems a lot!

But you think you are between 7 weeks min - 8. So 6+3 isn't far off if you are only 7. It's about the same as mine

I'm at other end now. Being induced Thursday!

I went for a scan at 7+3 due to bleeding and was pretty sure of my dates but only measured 6 weeks. I was a nervous wreck until my 12 weeks scan but by then I was actually measuring a few days ahead! Currently nearly 30 weeks and all is still ok.

Tashadream123 · 12/10/2019 09:55

I got a bfp on 6 September so I suppose I have to beeen 3 weeks at least to see that, so I must have been at least 7w5d on Wednesday so just over a week out isn't as much.
Thanks for sharing your positive story!

Just incase anyone is reading this who has a similar situation, I did go on to miscarry baby stopped developing shortly after my second scan when I was around 9 weeks (measuring 6w3d). Hoping to take aspirin and go to acupuncture next time.

I'm really sorry to hear that tasha I had 4 losses at 9-10 weeks and when I was being scanned (part of NHS recurrent miscarriage investigations) baby would have a HB but be behind dates and gradually get more behind. Heartbreaking. I eventually got a diagnosis of high uNK cells from the implantation clinic in Coventry and had a successful pregnancy first try on their protocol. Baby aspirin and progesterone didn't help me but do seem to help plenty of others. Take care, it's such a horrible thing to go through.

Hayls17 · 24/10/2019 20:02

So sorry to hear that x

Tashadream123 · 24/10/2019 20:16

Hi @patchworksack thank you for your comment I will bear that in mind as my first misscarriage was a mmc identified at dating scan and only 8w3d so could well have been a slow developer too. I think if the next pregnancy doesn't end well I am going to go straight for NK tests.

Hope you don't need to! Be kind to yourself, it's a really shitty thing to go through.

Tashadream123 · 24/10/2019 23:30

Thank you @patchworksack hopefully not but if it doesn't work I'll have a bit more hope hearing of your success..did they mention that slow development is a bit of a sign in could be NK cells or an immune thing? Or did hid hear of many others in similar situations?

It means implantation has failed for some reason. I had assumed my first few losses were genetic but they did basic genetics (karyotype) on the 4th one and it was all ok. The first assumption is there is something wrong with the embryo and that probably is the case for a lot of miscarriages, but not always.
