Anyone else watching Eliud Kipchoge’s 2hr marathon attempt?

I’m really rooting for him, I hope he makes it- I used to train in middle distance running when I was a teenager but I don’t think I could keep up that pace for more than a few hundred metres now... such a huge feat of achievement to even get to a level where someone could realistically attempt this!

Epic!

What a run! And he is such a humble man too. Completely in awe. He’s knocked 19 minutes off my half marathon time!

GoFiguire · 12/10/2019 10:49

PLEASE refer to them as Pace Setters. 41 pacemakers sounds like he has an acute heart condition.

I didn't see it as it happened (I was at Parkrun) but have now caught up a bit on clips.

Amazing run.

For people who think in imperial, that's roughly a 4-and-a-half minute miles. 26-and-a-bit times in a row with no breaks.

lastqueenofscotland · 12/10/2019 10:55

But they are called pace makers...
I was doing short track reps at that pace and was nearly sick int he week incredible

We’ve just witnessed something truly special. I admit to having a tear when he broke away from the pacemakers (yes that’s what I will continue to call them Hmm)

He is a truly humble and lovely man too, so well deserved.

AuntieStella · 12/10/2019 11:32

I've just seen another comparison to help put this into context.

It's the same as running Parkrun in 14:13, eight and a half times

AuntieStella · 12/10/2019 11:35

And of the 51,363,611 parkruns completed globally to date, only 5 have been faster than his marathon pace

What a weekend -Kenya's Brigid Kosgei has broken the women's marathon word record, that has stood for 16 years, with a time of 2:14:04 !!
