Do you expect your work manager to acknowledge your birthday?

Just that really. I work in a large organization as a member of the Exec team and report to the Director. My 50th is coming up later this year and I'm fairly confident it will pass unnoticed. On one hand we're professionals so I'm not hanging onto nor need his birthday wishes, on the other hand some kind of recognition would seem polite.

Would you expect your manager to acknowledge your birthday? Just trying to understand what's considered appropriate and reasonable.

Most people at my work have a gift and cake organised by the team, this is chipped into by our manager. My birthday is tomorrow and has gone completely unnoticed. Not surprised just pissed as I always organise birthdays at work.

I got a new manager four years ago and everyone now gets a card and cake for their birthday.

No, I wouldn’t expect it and have always kept it quiet everywhere I worked.

No I’d rather not. Friends at work, yes.

I don't think I've ever had a job anyones bothered really bout birthdays except going out for drinks.

I volunteer in my dc's school library and when you scan a birthday kids book the computer sings happy birthday. Makes my bloody day that does :)

No, I can't remember when my managers birthday is so how can I expect her to remember mine!

It's not a thing, where I work in the NHS, if someone says it's their birthday I will wish them happy birthday but otherwise, nothing.

We have cake for birthdays where I'm working. All the attention would make me cringe so I keep my birthday quiet.
My last workplace though used to let you finish early on your birthday, with pay, so I made sure to mention my birthday when working there!

We get our birthdays off. There is a card which is normally organised by the manager or a team member. We are a smallish organisation and we have a fantastic ethos at work with people looking out for each other.
