How long does it take to get used to not having sugar in tea?

I'm trying to cut down on sugar and have gone from two spoons to one in my tea. I'm now on none and have been for a few days but how long does it take for your tastebuds to adjust? Seems so bitter!

A wk, perhaps. I find it very sweet with it now. I like it but I like it without too. Still have sugar in my coffee but can drink with out.

I've tried but I just don't end up drinking it if it isn't how I like it. 3 sugars 😳 but I now take sweetners instead.

I started on 1 sweetners and 2 sugars till I was down to just sweetners. I've never tried very hard to get them down from 3 🙈Thankfully I don't drink several cups a day.

About 3 weeks. Just keep grinning and bearing it. After a few weeks, if you sip one with sugar in, you'll be appalled!

I’ve tried so many times and just can’t do it. Gave up tea completely when pregnant and had gestational diabetes cos can’t stand taste of sweetener either. Coffee I find no problem to go no sugar.

Honestly not long! Perhaps depending on how much tea you drink a day. I used to have one decent teaspoon... then for sheer kicks wanted to see if I could drop that. At first it was rank, but I think by day 4 I suddenly realised I was totally used to it! Even dared DP to have a go and we are now both no-sugars. Pp are right when they say you can’t go back - I HATE sugar in my tea now, it’s sickly and vile.
I also get to feel very smug (despite eating a generous amount of chocolate nearly every day) Grin.

When I started teaching, 37 years ago, there was never sugar readily available in the staffroom. My HOD told me that giving up sugar was really easy, two weeks without and you won't want it again.
He was right.; from that point on I couldn't stand sugar or sweetners in coffee or tea.
Don't cut down or swap for aspartame, just go cold turkey - your tastebuds will not take long to readjust.
I wish that other sins were as easy to give up!

I lived in halls of residence and didn’t have enough money spent all my money on booze to afford sugar so I just had to get used to it Grin I put sugar in now but if I forget to, I just drink it anyway.

I gave up for lent and could never go back

bellinisurge · 11/10/2019 13:07

I did it after 50 years of loving sugar in my tea. I just went cold turkey inspired by someone I knew who gave up smoking like that at a much greater age.
I actually had a few weird rashes for a couple of weeks and struggled unexpectedly with some citrus fruit. Then it all calmed down and I could never go back.
