Mugs in the office

Lighthearted Would you take someone else’s mug in the office which has their name printed on it?!! I had to rescue mine from someone’s desk which was half filled with cold coffee yesterday and think it’s really rude, especially as there are plenty of other cups. The offender didn’t even wash it up and didn’t apologise. It was a present from my husband. Will she be rooting through my handbag next time??!!

Mugs are important!

We have a clear desk policy and no one leaves anything in the teeny tiny kitchen nook. Gets round this issue as you have to keep it in your drawer.

But that aside. In an office where it’s basically the same people every day you know whose mug is whose.

I used to work somewhere where I was only in the office one day a week. One week I went in and realised I had forgotten to put my mug in my drawer! A colleague came up to me presented it to me and said “I rescued your mug!”

People know. Mugs are important.

For the PP who don’t ‘get it’ sadly you really are In the minority. And as someone rightly pointed out, perhaps you’re the culprits. In fact, I think someone actually admitted that they would take a personalised mug #gasp

I think you must be being deliberately obtuse now.

HotChocolateLover · 11/10/2019 09:21

@Ninkaninus I hear you regarding your argument. However, that’s just not how it works in our particular office. We have a set cupboard so in actual fact, turning around your argument, any cup in the cup cupboard should be considered owned. The visitor mugs are yellow and blue and kept elsewhere.

Well if it’s a small office or everyone knows that mugs are personal, or at least that that mug is yours, then that person was well out of order! I actually was being serious when I suggested you write up a note, laminate it and leave it in your mug at all times. Maybe a strongly worded limerick! Grin

@antisupermum this happened to my favourite mug! I used to keep it on my desk, had a day off and it disappeared. I searched high and low for it... In different kitchens, different floors of the building. Nothing. We then moved to a completely new building Sad

Even more annoyingly, I had brought the mug from UK to Australia, so I couldn't even replace it.

SpiderCharlotte · 11/10/2019 09:35

Someone took mine from my pigeon hole. The scoundrel.

Ninkaninus · 11/10/2019 09:41

Oh I would have been pissed off if someone ever took my mug off my desk. I used to periodically forget and leave it on the counter in the kitchen and one of my colleagues used to bring it back to me every time, bless him.

Ohh let’s talk about our mugs! Mine is from Sainsbury’s, and has lovely flowers in grape and and berry, plus dark olive leaves and butterflies in a dark blue. Set on a white and grey background.

(P.S. to OP, sorry for calling you wilfully obtuse, it wasn’t clear that your office has a slightly different mug culture to many other offices. Is the culprit quite new? It might be that things were different in their previous workplace)

I drink out of a glass pint mug. Everyone on the ward knows it's mine and won't touch it!

NatashaAlianovaRomanova · 11/10/2019 11:15

Mugs are important - I left mine at my last job & got a text from an old colleague letting me know he'd taken my mug home with him & to let him know when I was free to meet up to get it.

Love how excited you are to tell us about your mug Grin

Here's mine... obviously it's not an N as Natasha isn't my real name... it's from Matalan & I have 3 different versions of it.

@Ninkaninus Apology accepted 😉 Yes, they’re relatively new. Still no grovelling apology from them. Maybe i’ll Get them in the secret Santa and I can buy them a mug ☕️

I get it.
Mine is sentimental (lol) and it kept being used by someone in my office. I ended up keeping it in my drawer in the end. TBH I was surprised she would use it, considering it's design is something some people would judge the fuck out of!

Ken1976 · 11/10/2019 11:41

My daughter and her work colleagues keep their mugs in a drawer in their office. They find them all over the hospital where she works , taken by the doctors who also have access to the office. One she found after 6 months on one of the wards. It can be very annoying when you are on your feet for a 12 hour shift and when you get a chance for a cup of tea , your mug is missing.
I offered to buy four mugs with DOCTOR printed on them but she said that the docs would leave them all over the (large) hospital and still pinch the nurses mugs 🤣

MargoLovebutter · 11/10/2019 11:46

I'm ferociously territorial about my mug and everyone in my office knows it. If you have your own mug, that has your name on it and is your property then no other fucker should be laying their lips on it - in my humble opinion.

I send out the lynch mob on the very rare occasions mine goes missing & I don't care who thinks what about that. It's mine - hands off!

m0therofdragons · 11/10/2019 11:52

Literally just talking about this. I want one of those colour changing mugs so it looks plain but when it has tea in it my face appears with a "if you don't look like this (arrow) then this mug is stolen"!
