DD sudden leg pain

angelcake99 · 09/10/2019 09:15

DD was sitting playing on the pc last night and suddenly started getting shooting pains in her thigh. Over approximately 2 hours she was unable to put any weight on the leg at all. We gave her pain relief, a hot water bottle and she went to bed. This morning she can bend her leg, but still not stand on it. Should I just let her rest or try and get her to Gp? any advice please?

How old is she?

Dd is 11.

This happened to DS a year ago and he was 11 too.
We ended up in A&E as it was the weekend and he couldn't walk on it either. Again, came on suddenly and he was in tears.
IIRC it was diagnosed as growing pains, a ligament going out of sync with the other bits of his knee.
He was in pain for just a couple of days but it had vanished within a week and never happened again.

Meant to say I think it was a ligament. Can't quite remember!

megletthesecond thanks for your response. Your DS's experience does sound very similar. I will give her a bit longer and speak to Gp office.

Definitely go see GP.
It could be growing pains, could be something else.
My son had pain in his legs few weeks ago, but wasn't bad enough to walk. It went away. He is 11 too.
Few years ago, he had a pain in his legs, I thought it was growing pain too, but ended up in hospital for a week. He had infection 2 week before, which entered his leg muscle and caused muscle myopathy.

Thanks for responding Everythingseemsfine. Sorry to hear that happened to your DS. I will ring GP now.
