Didn't buy a ticket because I don't live in the UK. Depending on age and circumstances I think the sensible thing is to invest it all and live off the proceeds, don't touch the lottery win itself.

With £170m even if you only got 2% interest in a super safe investment that'd still be over £3m of income each year - more than enough for anyone and their whole family. Plus you could split it up and create trusts for family members so everyone has an income. Perhaps dedicate a portion of it to charity so you can make recurring large donations.

I love thinking about what I'd do with a win even though I don't play 😂

DD3 aged 13 and I had a convo about this the other day, she asked what I'd do if I won £170m.

I told her I did need some new teaspoons...

I mentally spend my nonexistent lottery winnings regularly, it's a lovely daydream. Oh the good you could do!! (and the places you could go and the friends you could help!!)

I once bought a lotto ticket for myself and one for my dad. Picked the numbers at random. I had three numbers and he had the other three. We won a tenner each, but it would have been about three million if I'd had them all on the same ticket. Gutting!

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 09/10/2019 16:10

I can't find the bloody ticket.

NigesFakeWalkingStick · 09/10/2019 16:51

It wasn't me. I didn't do it (forgot).

I don't know how I'd cope with that amount of money. The security would be beyond wonderful as a single parent but I suspect I'd soon realise it doesn't solve how I feel. Would be amazing to know I could help my mum and family out though, and have my son set up for life. I might even throw my ex a mill Grin

averythinline · 09/10/2019 16:51

I know exactly how would spend it wish I'd bought a ticket now Smile

NigesFakeWalkingStick · 09/10/2019 16:52

Oh, and it would be wonderful to see my horrible ex PIL beg for forgiveness after their appalling treatment of me and DS so they could get some money. And their faces when I reject them Grin

IrmaFayLear · 09/10/2019 17:42

The trouble is, in my pessimistic world, it would be the flippin' pil who would win it!

ShowOfHands · 09/10/2019 18:35

I wouldn't set up charities. I work for a charity and with lots of other voluntary sector organisations and we struggle for funding so much. Certainly I'd help existing charities but I wouldn't start replicating services and creating unnecessary financial loss.

Oliversmumsarmy · 09/10/2019 18:43

I'd bloody love a lottery win, but that is just too much money

I think I could actually spend that amount.

I love a certain area on the US and I have seen 2 houses that I like there.

One was £40 million and one was a rather low £27 million.

I would buy a few places around the world and flit from one to another or I would get rid of all my possessions and move into a hotel and when I got sick of the view move to another country and another hotel and live there for a few weeks.

Verily1 · 09/10/2019 18:59

I don’t understand people who say they couldn’t spend it!

Surely you could set up an organisation/ charity which will take millions in running costs.

Lawyers/ security/ admin of that lifestyle will also cost millions.

Oliversmumsarmy · 10/10/2019 13:01

My issue is I would spend it and more

Gingernaut · 10/10/2019 16:23

I've got a list of people and charities I'd share it with and I'd keep about a tenth of it.

NeverGotMyPuppy · 10/10/2019 22:45

It's a terribly exciting thing to think about!

First thing I would do is take a shopping trip and buy an expensive handbag, just because I could. And some jewellery.

Then I would give the first person who was friendly and polite an cheque for a million quid.

Then I would give a serious chunk to various charities - probably around the 75 million mark.

Then I'd go house shopping. In many countries!
