Shock

Wow. Can you imagine waking up to that?

Someone life has changed forever.

I think it would be incredibly isolating and breed resentment

UnoriginalUserName948 · 09/10/2019 01:02

I would give most of it away, to be honest.
Buy nice houses for myself, family and close friends. Fuck it, even coworkers I don't really like much can have £250k each.
Then what? I would still want to work. I would donate the bulk to charity. Local, grass roots charities that could really use the boost. To be honest I would struggle to spend much after that. I wouldn't be interested in investing. I'd save probably 2 million so I wouldn't have worries.

managedmis · 09/10/2019 01:09

Id keep every dirty penny

CakeNinja · 09/10/2019 01:10

Yes yes, it was I who had the winning ticket so you can all stop checking your numbers now.
I am arranging a vodka celebration tomorrow morning at 10am shortly followed by the ceremonious handing in of my resignation to my boss. He can stick his job right up his tight arse. I will pay you all to come and watch.

Well, this might have happened if I had actually played the lottery Grin

MrsTerryPratchett · 09/10/2019 01:27

Well they've done studies and it doesn't make you happy. Not long term. It doesn't even necessarily make you rich long term as so many people mismanage it.

I could try proving them all wrong.

amBeyondMyself · 09/10/2019 01:30

It wasn't me.

If I had won, at least 150million would have gone to charities. Then I would have sorted out my family and friends.

I would then have left work and made it my life's work to make my bully as miserable as he made me.

Sadly I will have to wait for death and hope that I can haunt the fuck out of him. Grin

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 09/10/2019 07:49

Dh went off to work at 7 am this morning so im guessing its not us

Dammit ...I wanted the opportunity to prove i could be rich and it wouldn’t ruin me

(It would absolutely ruin me)

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 09/10/2019 07:51

Oh and we were going to help the homeless...we were in Brighton last week and people were sleeping in tiny tents

BeyondMyWits · 09/10/2019 07:53

I won.... £5.70...

Kernowgal · 09/10/2019 08:01

Obvs didn't win here either but doesn't stop me daydreaming!

I would also give the vast majority of it away, mostly to charities but some to family and friends too. I'd buy myself a nice house but nothing big, it's just me so no point in some ugly mansion, I'd be quite happy with a three bed detached with a nice garden, in a location I could never otherwise afford. The rest I'd invest and live off the interest. I'd still work part time, I'd go mad otherwise.

I'm far too sensible and risk averse though!

leckford · 09/10/2019 08:02

I would keep very quiet about it and give it to the charities I believe in. From what I have seen giving to relations generally ends in tears, as it is never enough. I would support parents if I had any however.

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 09/10/2019 08:02

He just texted me to say we haven’t won

I KNOW!!!

Otterseatpuffinsdontthey · 09/10/2019 08:06

I got 1Star Smile

FoodWoes · 09/10/2019 08:21

Not me :(

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 09/10/2019 08:23

I haven’t checked my ticket yet. Can’t seem
To find it.

Toooldtobearsed2 · 09/10/2019 08:24

Not us. Just as well. DH and I have actually rowed furiously about how to spend the winnings....... and that is when it is all a dream 🤣

MonsteraCheeseplant · 09/10/2019 08:27

We won £2.90. Begging letters this way...

TildaKauskumholm · 09/10/2019 08:34

Much as I would like it to be me - but I don't buy lottery tickets - I think it's a ridiculous amount. I would be more likely to buy tickets for lower winnings, say every single draw £1 million or even half. Enough to be worth a gamble, and for ordinary folks still lif-changing.

PocketMoneyMonster · 09/10/2019 08:37

Not a sodding bean here. Me and my friend have a syndicate but we never win anything at all.

I would have no trouble ploughing my way through mega millions but truthfully £500,000 would be enough to make a meaningful difference to life as it current stands, double that and I'd be fairly sorted.

FixTheBone · 09/10/2019 08:47

£20m each in funds for the kids.

£10m on a ridiculous country estate and into a fund to pay the staff and upkeep.

leaves £20m to pay off mortgages and debts for any friends and family that so desire, live a ridiculous life of luxury and donate to good causes.

OMGshefoundmeout · 09/10/2019 08:53

Wowee! What a lot of money. I hope the way they choose to spend it brings them a great deal of happiness.

But to put it in perspective, Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon is said to earn at least that much every single day!

AGermFreeAdolescent · 09/10/2019 08:56

That is FAR too much money to win. Not bitter because I didn’t, lol, but I’d feel sick with that amount of money and would genuinely not know what to do.

We had a man at work put on a syndicate for the euros one Friday when I couldn’t do it one week. We were meant to see the tickets when he brought them in on Monday. He never turned up and had phoned in the morning to unexpectedly quit right there and then. Managers said about notice but apparently “he didn’t care” and hung up. Shock

People called me paranoid but what else are you supposed to think!?

OMGshefoundmeout · 09/10/2019 08:58

@PocketMoneyMonster. You are right about a million being enough to get you sorted for life. DH recently got nearly that much because the company he worked for was sold and his (until then worthless) salary share options suddenly paid out. It hasn’t changed our lives in any major way but we will be able to help DC when they want to buy somewhere and I hope I will never have to lie awake worrying about money again. That peace of mind is priceless.

AGermFreeAdolescent · 09/10/2019 08:59

Also, does anyone think it’s really mean when the lottery emails you (they might have changed the wording now) telling you “we have exciting news about your winning ticket”. I remember I got one of these emails and my hand was shaking and my heart beating fast as I clicked the mouse to open the email. I had won a tenner. I was furious! AngryConfusedGrin

RushianDisney · 09/10/2019 09:03

I won £2.90. I am pretty miffed, I had so many good plans for the millions. Maybe my luck is slowly increasing and it will be my big win next?
