And here`s me thinking there was only one winner.

Teacakeandalatte · 09/10/2019 09:09

I wonder if it was that poster who was going on about blowing their life savings on lottery tickets?
I was hoping to win and I would have bought a nice house in the countryside with plenty of room for my future dogs, helped out the family and friends and give quite a lot of favourite charities.

Mylittlerainbow · 09/10/2019 09:21

We did a syndicate at work once and a girl read out our millionaire code rather than the one that was actually called and for a good 10 minutes, we thought we had £1million between 5 of us

marvellousnightforamooncup · 09/10/2019 09:44

I would've won, but I didn't buy a ticket.

RainyG · 09/10/2019 09:49

I was thinking how if I won I would have to inform DWP for universal credit..

'Hello. I'd like to report a change in circumstances. An increase in capital.'

'How much capital?'

'£170million....'

Bouldghirl · 09/10/2019 10:20

Wasn’t me so good luck to whoever it is. Use it wisely!

Whatsnewpussyhat · 09/10/2019 10:25

Well it wasn't bloody me as their stupid website crashed the hour before cut off.

Sagradafamiliar · 09/10/2019 10:46

I dreamt I'd won 16 grand the other day and was gutted when I woke up Grin
Someone must be feeling like they're having an out of body experience today, I hope the money brings them happiness and opportunities to use wisely!

ShowOfHands · 09/10/2019 10:51

Would you really set up charities? DH always says this and it's the last thing I would do. We argue about it sometimes when we spend the 170 million in our heads.

FoodWoes · 09/10/2019 11:00

I would. I would set up and run an animal rescue so I had something to actually DO.

I would probably donate to charities mostly but I would definitely set up a few.

I would also Foster as many kids as I could provide a happy home for.

It wasn't me as I didn't buy a ticket but my next dooor neighbour had a new washing machine delivered this morning so he may have blown some of the winnings (it was from John Lewis!).

Crabonastick · 09/10/2019 12:21

I was so gutted it wasn’t me. I had already mentally spent most of it Blush

Would have been CARNAGE

WildRosie · 09/10/2019 12:26

One thing that would concern me hugely if I suddenly became fabulously wealthy is personal security. Keeping secret a fortune of 100-odd million quid would be virtually impossible, making one an attractive target for robbery, burglary, abduction, fraud and so on. I hope advice on personal security is available to those who find themselves in such a position.

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 09/10/2019 12:27

It could still be me, haven’t checked my ticket yes.

"You're fit to work. Find a job or you'll be sanctioned".

If you can, download the app on your phone. The website crashed for me too and I kept refreshing but it just kept saying the site was busy. I logged on via the app with ten minutes to go and got my tickets (for all the good it did)

HotChocolateLover · 09/10/2019 12:38

Imagine if it was a MNer. It wasn’t this one though 🤦‍♀️ I’d really thought about my numbers too but yet again the machine picked the wrong ones. One day, a distant relative (great, great, great etc grandchild might win with those numbers) just a shame I will have popped my clogs by then!

tisonlymeagain · 09/10/2019 12:49

They do give you advice @WildRosie My friend used to work for the National Lottery, she said it was a great job!

I'd already mentally spent it too. First thing would be sticking two fingers up at work. I'd have to do something though, I am a worker bee, so like others, maybe I would set up some sort of charity.

I'd help out some friends and family too - surprisingly probably not the ones that are neccessarily 'closest' but the ones that have been there for me when I've needed them, the ones I know would never ask for anything and the ones I know who would give me their last £1 if I needed it.

WildRosie · 09/10/2019 12:51

Thankyou tisonly. That's good to know.

TailsoftheManyPaws · 09/10/2019 12:58

I'd be bereft of enough imagination to know how to spend it wisely.

Now, a random £17k, that's going on a separate en suite room with a tiled floor to keep foster kittens in (eyes whiffy shredded carpet in current bedroom) and occasionally allow family to stay over.

£170k would sort out my woefully small pension fund.

But even £170million wouldn't be likely to sort DS's problems, so meh.

SinkGirl · 09/10/2019 13:06

We got £11...

I’ve already called the travel agent and financial advisor, obvs.

TailsoftheManyPaws · 09/10/2019 13:07

Night in with a rented movie and wine, SinkGirl?

MrsFattyBumBum · 09/10/2019 13:13

Does anyone ever look at the winning numbers and just think they look so easy to just pick. Why didn't I just pick THOSE ones 😂

tanstaafl · 09/10/2019 13:17

Don't know if the win has been claimed yet, assuming not for the purpose of this post ....

If it's not claimed within 6 months, would they get in touch with all the "1 level down" winners and divvy the £170m out between them?

IrmaFayLear · 09/10/2019 13:22

Dh and I were Sad because we really thought we'd won, and then were discussing how it would be ok if it was some random person from, I dunno, Milton Keynes, but imagine if it was someone you knew . Imagine it was a close-ish relative and you had to be pleased for them as they graciously invited you once a year to their new mansion, roared past in their new Range Rover and paraded their dcs off to a poncey school. It would stick in one's craw.

Some years ago the boss of someone I knew won big time. He was already earning over £200K a year so the employees had to struggle to look pleased for him.

Regarding security (something I have thought about too!) I believe that you only get the full menu of assistance if you go for publicity. If you opt to remain anonymous then you're on your own. Difficult choice!

Jocasta2018 · 09/10/2019 13:32

Suffering from insomnia, so was reading my email at 3am. There was one from the National Lottery telling me I'd won a prize!

I was unable to log onto the bloody app - kept telling me it was busy. Finally when I woke up at 5.30am after dozing, I discovered that I'd won £2.90. Well that's the next Euromillions ticket bought!
